New Year
Happy (slightly belated) New Year everyone (whose new year starts on January 1st)!
I had an interesting beginning to the year, with a phonecall from work at 9.45 a.m. I had woken up a few minutes earlier, and was contemplating my first cup of coffee of the day when the phone rang, so I leapt out of bed and charged into the sitting room to pick it up, and it was the operations centre. By default I was top of the callout list - there are normally 7 people above me, but they were all away, so I sprang into action, and was at work by 10.15. Problem was, I didn't know how to fix the problem when I got there, because I didn't know the right passwords. Two hours later I managed to track down someone who did, made them email the password to me, and got the system fixed. In a way, it's a good thing, because I'll get an extra day off in lieu at some point!
Yesterday was my mum's seventieth birthday. I asked her what she wanted (my mum already has everything she wants, except electronics, which she hates), and she said a trip to Buckingham Palace, so that's what my brother and sister and I have got her. It's not until August, but she'll be going to Clarence house and to a play as well. I suspect that I'm the only republican in my family!
