OH MY GOD YELLOWCARD ACOUSTIC!!!!!

Mar 09, 2008 15:00

Last night, Saturday, March 8th was the second night of the very first Yellowcard acoustic tour. and you know something? I WAS THERE. I WAS FUCKING THERE. In the front. Not kidding, there was me, and then the stage and then there was nobody in front of me, PERIOD. Just me, my friends, the wall and THE BAND. PLAYING. AND IT WAS THE GREATEST THING SINCE CHEESE BECAUSE OH MY GOD THEIR STAGE PRESENCE IS AMAZING, AND THEY ARE JUST SO CONFIDENT AND HAPPY AND *keyboardsmash* I'm taking it back from the beginning. Because there is no other way to express this and get it down somewhere where I can remember it forever! ACK!

So we start this adventure at around 4:50PM Mountain time in Englewood Colorado outside the Gothic Theater, (Greatest small concert hall in Denver,) and we're waiting for when the doors will open at Six, Rhi, Anna, Paco and I are all just giggling and laughing and we're all excited and sort of nervous. So finally six rolls around and TADAA! We're in, even after a scuffle with security because we had no I.D., but the issue was resolved and we got in! ACK! So we walk in, then we walk forward and realize that we are RIGHT AT THE FRONT. There are a few kids in front of us, but thats it. We stand around 'marking our territory' and getting comfortable, finally seven creeps up on us and Treaty of Paris does their little opening gig, they were fun, not musical revolutionaries, but fun. They play a few songs, make a retarded/offhanded comment about how they didn't know this (Coming from Chicago and all) but Colorado is the fittest state in the country with the most drastically low percentile of overweight citizens in the U.S. Cool. So then when they've done their thing PlayRadioPlay! comes in, they're good, not quite as chatty or insane as the last band, but Rhi really liked them, and I think with some time they'll really blossom. (During all of this there was these two kids who were eating cloves of garlic and smelled REALLY awful and kept trying to push into our little space that we had for Paco because she's a claustrophobic, so this kid was just breathing down Anna's neck so I finally got pissed off, fished a pack of Eclipse gum out of my bag and was like- HERE I felt like such a brat but it was really funny)  Then, The Spill Canvas comes on, and it's AWESOME SHIT. Seriously, they were charismatic, and fun and they Rocked it, the music was just- I have to get more of it. I only have a few of their songs and I'm so excited I got to see them live! They played their thing, including their new single that I just cannot stop listening to, and after they were done the three kids in front of us left and WE WERE ON THE RAIL. There was not a single person in front of us, not ONE.

It's Just Ryan Key at first, with a blue acoustic Ibanez that looks EXACTLY LIKE MINE, NO JOKE. And he just starts singing, and the crowd goes INSANE. I can't even remember what song it was, but I think it was either the lights and sounds bonus track or something off of one for the kids. who knows, but it was electrifying. He finishes, and looks out at all of us just smiling and talking with the crowd, so genuinely happy and eager, and the whole band just materializes, he introduces the guy they had on the Cello, instead of Drums, THEY HAD NO DRUMS WTF BUT IT WAS REALLY COOL. I can't remember what the dude's name was but he was an ARTIST. So it was just Ryan Key,(Guitar and lead vocals) Ryan Mendez (Guitar) and Sean, Mackin, (Violin/Vocals) and Mr.Cello man. But it was so incredible, everything was acoustic, and melodic and just, MUSIC. Ryan Key made me laugh so many times. Like- all the stupid little offhanded comments he would make in between songs when he was trying to catch his breath. Like, there was this whole 'in cognito' rant about not being able to get a steady girlfriend for over five years, I was just like- "CURSE BEING UNDERAGE! DAMN IT TO HELL BECAUSE I TOTALLY WANT TO MARRY YOU! SERIOUSLY!" Only I didn't say it because I just didn't. JEEZ they were hilarious. He also went off an a mini Tangent like- "I was kind of looking forward to possibly being able to do a tour without getting all gross and sweaty, but seriously guys *pant* I'm perspiring, no joke." and then Ryan Mendez was just "I'm sure there are more than a few ladies out in the crowd tonight who are not in any way opposed to you being hot and sweaty Ryan." *Cue fangirl scream* And then I believe was the onstage discussion about getting laid. Yeah. That's when that happened. It was hysterical. I laughed so hard I almost died. And halfway through Sean was just laughing like "Come on dude, you haven't done too badly, you are a singer in a rock band." And Ryan just starts laughing like- "But apparently we're not a rock band, we're an 'Emo Band' whatever the fuck that is, I don't even know what emo is, emotional? We're an emotional band? How the hell is that even a genre? Whatever." And they just launched into it and kept on playing. it was so cool. They played Fighting, and Only one, and Dear Bobbie, Keeper, Light up the Sky,  Way Away,  Believe,  View from Heaven (which almost made me cry), Lights and Sounds, Rock Star Land, one that Ryan Keys wrote back in High school that I Can't remember the name of, and a couple others off of One For the Kids that I didn't know quite as well, because I'm lame like that and haven't bought the damn album YET m'kay? and then for the Encore- (which we MADE them do, SERIOUSLY) they Played Cigarette, and then For Ocean Avenue, for Ocean Avenue? Ryan Made the crowd sing it, it was so cool, For the chorus, he split us down the middle and had the right side sing the back up and the left sing the lead- my friends and I were over on the left and Rhi and I were so freaking loud, it kicked MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR ASS. And another REALLY cool thing that Ryan said was- "I'm so glad that you guys come out here and hang out with us and hear our music, it means so much so us, and we love you guys because you understand that it's not about the Radio, or MTV or any of that crap it's just about the fucking Music." He was so amazing about it. I'm so flipping happy, and just exhausted. But happy. I want to go back and relive the whole thing over and over again. They should seriously do an acoustic compilation recording. It would be so kick ass. In the meantime I hope they jump on warped this year because I seriously want to see the whole band rock it live. I'm a total fangirl, and I'm so grateful I had this experience.

Afterwards we hauled our noodley legs into Rhi's Moms car and crashed on her couch. It was so FREAKING COOL. GAH. We spent the whole night talking about it until we all passed out, I still have my "Under drinking age with permittence to enter X on the back of my hand even though I had to take a shower because I smelled like concertstink.

So yeah, that's my AWESOME ADVENTURE OF EPIC AWESOMENESS rant for you, ^w^

epic, yellowcard, adventure, concert, happy, rl
