Just a little ficlet I posted on my journal ages ago -

Summary: Elizabeth muses on loves lost, in more ways than one…
Elizabeth didn’t know what to think, didn’t know how to deal with the rejection and hurt deep down. Jack had always been just, well, Jack and Will was as different as you could get if one ignored the pirate blood. Brushing a strand of her hair away from her face she sat down on the bed. What she’d just witnessed at the docks was unheard of in polite society, one heard of pirates doing that yes, but not men such as Will who’d been taught the very rules of propriety that Elizabeth herself stood servant to. Shaking her head she moved to the window and looked out over Port Royale. The expression of bliss on Will’s face was forever etched as if by dagger into her mind. The moan that escaped his mouth was echoing in her ears like the church bell when one stood too close to it. She could never have him and now she knew for certain. Will wasn’t hers; he had been but not anymore. The hands of the pirate would carry him into the distance away from her. Away from polite society and into the life of piracy. Little did Elizabeth know that within ten years she would see that same boy and that same pirate with no expression, no sound escaping their lips, as the drums ended suddenly and the sound of a trapdoor opening was drowned out by the cheers of the crowd.
