Disclaimer: These characters are never mine.
Alicia could say that she was fortunate enough to meet Miles. Their romance had been her first love, her first inkling of what a relationship was like and quickly she learned the art of compromise. The joy brought her some amazing highs unparalleled by anything she experienced previously, but she wasn't expecting the lows that followed. When her parents divorced, it gave her a grim outlook on life and love, but he didn't let it stop him from showing her that love still existed. All she wanted to do was sulk and he understood.
He insisted, "Just because two people don't work out and stay together forever doesn't mean that what they had wasn't authentic. It doesn't mean that love is destined to end."
Alicia could say that she was lucky to have someone like Miles in her life. He balanced her out in some ways, he brought her back to the surface when she felt like she was sinking, but this didn't mean it was all cherries and sunshine all the time. He had a dark side to him and when he got into his funks it was hard for her to get him out. She tried to give him his space and it helped at first, but over time the gap between them widened. The times she tried to bring it up, he shrugged it off because he didn't want to face anything.
"What do I have to do to get you to talk to me?"
"I don't know what you're talking about. I've been fine."
"Lately you've been distant and that's not like you. You consider that fine?"
"I think we should break up. Work has been stressful for both of us, we hardly have time to see each other and it's starting to mess with our relationship."
Alicia was stunned by this turn of his events, but she gave Miles his freedom because she believed in everything he said before. Days turned into weeks and before she knew it their break up was a permanent thing, not a passing phased they would bounce back from. Alicia knew he caused her heartache, but the fortune she saved in therapy bills by working through her issues sooner rather than later was undeniable.
