If you were to ask Millicent Bulstrode how she met Lavender Brown she’d tell you it was a series of happy accidents that led her to the passionate Gryffindor. She prefers the term passionate instead of the adjectives people liked to often use such as obsessive and clingy.
The first happy accident occurred on the Hogwarts Express in their first year. Lavender was walking to her compartment when Gregory Goyle tripped her as she passed the compartment full of future Slytherins. Millicent happened to be walking by at that precise moment and caught the blond before she could hit the ground. Lavender thanked her for this.
The second happy accident occurred in an abandoned classroom in their fourth year. Gregory’s crush on Lavender had escalated to near obsession and he frequently sent her owls with some of his attempts at poetry. How was this a happy accident, you ask? Lavender ended up confronting Millicent about the poems the night before the Yule Ball because she had come to believe Millicent was behind the poems.
"I’m really flattered and all, but I don’t think it would work. Besides I’m sort of seeing someone," Lavender would say when Millicent took credit. Millicent was pleased by the fact Lavender thought to confront her and not Gregory, who made it painfully clear he fancied her.
The third happy accident occurred in Diagon Alley a year after they left Hogwarts. Millicent bumped into her and made her drop the bags she was carrying in the process. After she apologized Lavender asked her why she took credit for Gregory’s failed attempts to woo her.
"I was only doing it to protect you. I know Greg. He wasn’t suited to be anyone boyfriend growing up, but he’s much better now," she lied. Lavender thanked her for being so thoughtful. The two of them said their goodbyes and Millicent watched her as her blond locks swayed from side to side to the rhythm of her steps wishing she had told her the truth.
