rarepair_shorts] "Kates, what are you doing?" She threw the top back on quickly and shoved it back into the cabinet. She reached up on her tiptoes and grabbed a bottle without looking, clinking a bunch of them together accidentally. "Getting a drink," she said hurriedly, turning and smiling gently as he appeared in the doorway. "Want some?" He laughed, walking into the kitchen and taking the bottle. "Olive oil, Kates? Didn't know you were into that kind of bodily cleansing."
notes; this is really the first chapter that is all Katie. the second one is more mournful than insightful, so i wanted this to be more of that. i'm sure you all want to see into Katie's thought processes. also, this is the same person that grabbed her away from Adrian in the Diagon Alley scene! I'm not telling you who it is, but if you can guess, then Kudos! He's mostly described the way that I see him being in this sort of situation. Anyway, read on!

PART SIX Katie was shaking entirely as she knocked on her friend's door frantically. She knew it was somewhat late at night but she needed to talk to him. She knocked again - for about the seventh time - and the door finally swung open. "Katie -" Before he could finish his greeting, she darted inside, wringing her hands and trying to figure out what to say. He closed the door wordlessly and turned to look at her as she paced back and forth. She stopped, looked at him with a partially opened mouth, but closed it and continued to pace. "Look, I know I fucked up. I should have had Adrian caught. But it's fucking hard, you know? I still have feelings for him and he's gone. I don't know where he is. Last time I saw him prior to earlier today, he tried to kill me."
"Well, Kates, now you've returned the favour." Katie glowered at her companion, stopping in her movements. "I didn't try and kill him." She said with a bitter sting to her voice, walking past him to sit on the couch, purposely crashing her shoulder against his. He shook his head with a slight laugh in his voice, although the topic was far from funny. He looked at her as she sat down. He moved over towards her and sat beside her before hugging her tightly. "Hey. You didn't do anything wrong, here. He's the one that's gone off the deep end." Katie shook her head, pulling away from the hug. But he was insistant and the strong grip she had remembered from that fateful Diagon Alley disaster was causing a feeling of nostalgia to surface. She finally managed to pull away from his grip. "That's not true. If I hadn't..." She sighed heavily. She hadn't admitted this to herself so brutally. "If I hadn't treated Adrian like the scum of the earth, I think things would have been different. Maybe we would have been together. Married, even," she wondered as a distance look came across her features. She snapped out of it quickly. "Now he's gone off to the Death Eaters. Do you know how much he knew? Just about everything I knew! He could tell them all and ruin us. He really could destroy us if he wanted to." These brand new thoughts scared Katie. Adrian knew just about everything about their efforts. Where their base was, who was involved, who they were looking for, and in what order. There was no telling what this information could have been used for. She was surprised that members of the squad weren't missing at that point due to being killed or kidnapped.
Katie ran her fingers through her hair, pulling it back from her face and then pulling her hair tie out to reassemble her hair. Her companion was quiet, a pensive look on his face. She looked at him curiously for a while until he finally looked back at her. "What?" He asked her, his face now completely void of the previous enlightenment. "You were thinking about something. What are you thinking?" She got up from her seat and proceeded into the kitchen. As she waited for him to answer her, she pulled open his cabinets. There were many different types of spices sitting in front of Katie, but they were very odd coloured. She picked up two of them and looked at them. They seemed to be harmless - sage and thyme - two spices that she knew were for flavouring. She pulled the top off of the thyme container. "I wasn't thinking anything, Kates. I just wonder about what Pucey must be thinking right now. There can't be much he can do with just Flint as company." Katie sniffed the contents of the shaker; something that wasn't very safe to do in the aspect that she might be causing harm to herself. It didn't look like thyme - like she thought it should look - and certainly didn't smell like it. "Kates, what are you doing?" She threw the top back on quickly and shoved it back into the cabinet.
Her face turned red and she shook her head. She turned back to the cabinet, opened it, and pulled out the thyme container that she had briefly smelled only moments ago. "What is this?" She asked. He raised an eyebrow at her. "What do you mean? It's thyme." Katie folded her arms and looked at him. "That's not true and you know it, big guy. What is it?" He sighed heavily. "Fine. It's full of ground up dusts and poisons and such. Just in case anything happens. I can never be too sure," he said. Katie picked up the bottle and shook her head at him. "Who knew that these things wouldn't be sprinkled in anyone's soup." Katie laughed a little before sitting down. "What other things to you have going on around here?" Katie frowned as he shook his head. "Can't tell you. It's better you don't know. And you won't get into anything on accident, I promise. Now, we need to get back to finding Adrian. Wherever he is, he won't stay there long. So we should go back to headquarters and keep an eye out. He's going to come back soon enough." Katie nodded, standing back up again and waiting for him to join her. "Are you sure we can't take any parsley with us?" She batted her eyelashes at him. He laughed heartily at her. "Not unless you fancy feeding it to Adrian and causing his throat to close." Katie glared at him but then burst out into laughter. "Well, at least he'd be quiet, then."
