It was a start. Gregory had persuaded Lavender to met him in the Room of Requirement under the allusion that he was there to give her a message from Blaise. Lavender had a huge crush on Blaise, but he didn't have the heart to tell her that he wanted nothing to do with her. She was chirpy little thing and rejecting her meant in persons he would have to listen to that chirpiness in overdrive. Blaise didn't want that. That's how Gregory ended up volunteering himself to relay the message, but what Blaise didn't realize was that Gregory wasn't exactly living up to his end of the deal.
Blaise should've noticed something was off the minute Lavender asked him what she should wear for their date later that week, but he chalked it up to determination with a hint of psychosis. He was, after all, irresistible and he couldn't blame her for wanting a piece of him even though he specifically told her he didn't feel the same. Okay, he didn't tell her, Gregory did. The same principle applied though so he ignored Lavender's winks later that day. The love notes should've made him suspicious but they didn't. Gregory claimed they were written for him and managed to turn Blaise's name into his own. Nobody questioned Gregory, which made him grin wickedly. He had always known that people underestimated him for all of the wrong reasons.
Now he was headed to the Room of Requirement. He had fixed his hair and managed to smell nice for once. He detested the cologne his parents bought him. It made him smell like a troll. Lavender was pleased to see Gregory and for this reason he felt it was time to come clean about this entire charade.
"I've been meaning to tell you something."
"Oh?"
"Blaise doesn't really like you. All those messages you think you've been getting from him are really from me. I'm really the one that likes you."
"What? You've been lying to me this whole time. All those times Blaise stood me up were your sick way of trying to get me alone."
Gregory nodded meekly. She sure knew how to bring a guy down. Lavender stormed out of the Room of Requirement shortly after Gregory's confession. What a start indeed.
