He never meant to hurt her or turn her away. He simply let the words come out of his mouth and as they flowed they happened to float in her direction. He won't apologize because his pride won't let him. He's always right. Always was, always will be. He knows she can't change that. No matter how hard she tries she'll always be in the wrong and he's taking it upon himself to correct her.
Draco Malfoy is never at a loss for words. More often than not he's constructing insults to throw at people. It amuses him greatly and most insults are real sharp. He doesn't mean to be witty. His intent is purely malicious. He doesn't pretend otherwise. If you ask him what he wants out of life he'll tell you he wants respect, but in many ways what he really wants is acceptance.
She wanted him to know she was who she was. This did not mean she wanted his acceptance. This did not mean she wanted his love. She never expected either from him so what was the point in thinking about it. She was her own person, an individual. She doesn't think he sees that some times. He's always comparing her to her brothers which angers her. She's separate from them.
Ginny Weasley does not take anyone's crap. No matter who they are or what they say. Growing up in a house full of boys helped her stand up for herself at an early age. While most girls were crying over silly trifles, she was getting up and continuing to play Quidditch; bloody knee and all.
"You're an extremely huge git. Aren't you? Either that or ridiculously stupid?"
"Hold the insults Weasel. I wouldn't be so quick to point fingers and call names. Aren't you just a little too old for name calling? Last I checked that was reserved for nine year olds."
And so it starts again. Ginny tries to explain her point. Draco rebuts and refuses to see her point. She gets angry and tries to hit him. He stops her and tries to hit her in return. All those years of taking each others' insults got tiresome. Both realize they need to part before they kill each other. When they both try to leave, harsh words are exchanged. This goes on for about ten minutes and then they return to their respective desks to finish their studies. They both continue their Potions homework.
"Perhaps tomorrow I'll tell him/her how I really feel," they both tell themselves. For now the rush they get from arguing is enough.
