Foster care / adoption fics?
There are loads of characters in different fandoms that were either fostered or adopted. Some of the ones that instantly spring to mind are Brennan in Bones, Sara in CSI, Stella in CSI NY, Claire in Heroes and Daniel in SG-1, and there are probably loads more.
I'd love recs for fics from any fandoms, which revolve around fostering or adoptions. Preferably not kidfics, though, please; set in the present, not the past.
For example:
* meeting with real parents (in Claire's case, perhaps how she got into contact with her father after the end of s1, as shown by the phone call in s2?)
* a past foster parent or sibling turning up
* memories of experiences in the foster system, traumatic or otherwise
* identifying with foster children who are victims in the crimes they're investigating
