Message for you, sir!

Figured I'd post it here first, since it was this challenge plus some old movieverse Denethor fics that inspired me. Yes, I've skipped the "family" prompt, but I always come back to my first fandom sooner or later, so I may get a full Theodred set yet.

Prompt: Red
Title (if any): You'll Shoot Your Eye Out
Word Count: 155 (I'm a heavy thinker.)
Characters: Theodred, Boromir, Faramir, and Theoden
Rating: G
Warnings (if any): Boys will be boys... Not mine, though.

"I think you need to aim it higher.”

“If I shoot straight up, it’ll fall right back down atop us. In your foot.”

“But then how is it supposed to fly all the way to Rohan?”

“I think we need a bigger bow.”

“Well, probably. But Father won’t let me try a longbow yet.”

“What are you two doing?” Theoden asked, causing both elder boys leaning over the city wall to look back guiltily. Faramir remained contentedly chewing on one of his brother’s spare practice arrows.

“Trying to figure out how to send the Red Arrow, in case there was ever a need,” Boromir said, hiding the bow behind his back. His own son was just as quick to hide the quiver. “If I can deliver it, Father won’t have to.”

“And how do you think Theodred and I will receive it?”

The boys looked between themselves and shrugged. “We hadn’t gotten that far, yet.”
