Salvation
He only has to survive here for one month, he thinks, and then, he can be untied and released so he can continue to carry out his mission.
Still, he knows that he has no water or food and he doesn't have his swords. He has no right to move freely, has no right to breathe normally, has no right to sleep soundly at night.
And so, he believes that he'll wait for his salvation in the form of a promise, and for each week, his survival will depend on something different, something that will keep him from giving up and giving in. He'll live through one week for all the training he's done in the past and all that training he's done in the future. He'll live through one week for every smile he's seen on that young girl's face. He'll live through one week for his own promise that he made all of those years ago, and one week for all of the justice he's brought to the world, and all that he will bring when he's no longer trapped.
That's what his plan is, but instead, salvation comes in the form of a boy made of rubber, a boy wearing a straw hat, and he thinks that he likes it better this way--because now, he has more than he ever could have imagined.
