Author's Notes:
Ugh, it’s been so long since I wrote in my my little Mary Sue verse that I’d forgotten some of the names...particulary of my Mary Sue. I really fail. Anyway, from here on out, her family name before marrying Renji is now Takayama.....Like anyone cares, but...*shrugs* Set back in their high school days

“You know, this really wasn’t necessary.” Takayama Mizuko told her escort at the moment, one Yanagi Renji.
“I know it’s not,” He answered “I just feel a bit more secure in knowing that you got to your classroom in one piece.” Mizuko frowned at that.
“That was two weeks ago.” She whispered. “I’m fine now. I have nothing to worry about here at school.” Yanagi smiled slightly.
“It doesn’t mean that I don’t worry that something could happen.” He told her as they stopped outside the door to Mizuko’s classroom. “I’m just glad you have class with Akaya.”
“You told him to keep an eye on me, didn’t you?” She glared, then sighed. She wasn’t all that surprised, even without the confirmation of that knowledge.
“I did.” Renji admitted. “Though you know as well as I do, that he won’t take it too seriously.” He smiled at her, glanced around, and snuck a quick peck on her forehead when no one was looking. A whooping cheer from behind them told them that they had been caught. Mizuko laughed.
“Speak of the devil…” She said, waving. “Hi, Akaya-kun”
Renji turned around, and cleared his throat. “You saw nothing.”
“Heh, I bet if I hadn’t shown up, it would have been a lot more something.” Kirihara Akaya grinned, as he elbowed Mizuko. “So, is he a good kisser when no one’s actually watching?” She just giggled.
Renji sighed. “Don’t have me think of flawed training exercises for you. I’d hate for Genichirou to have to give you extra laps to run today.” Renji said, as he turned off to head to his own classroom. He paused for a second and turned around. “See you at lunch?”
“Maybe the last half of it. I have to catch up with my friends today - “
“What friends?” Akaya mumbled. He knew Mizuko as one of the shyest persons in their classroom. She only had a few other friends that he knew of. Mizuko elbowed him as Renji walked off.
“I have friends.” Mizuko told him. “They just happen to be older…or younger..than me.” She said. “Besides, I really just want to eat lunch at my desk today.”
Akaya shrugged. “Nothin’ wrong with that.” He said, as he took his seat in front of her, then turned around in the chair. “You know Yanagi-sempai will come looking for you tho.”
“Maybe eventually.” She shrugged. “Oh, by the way…” Mizuko grinned as she reached out and tried to straighten out a one of Akaya’s many stray curls. “I missed you too, seaweed head.”
“Hey!” He exclaimed, pulling away. And tuning back around as the bell rang “Don’t do that..and don’t call me that!” He paused for a moment. “Welcome back.” He told her.
For a school the size of Rikkaidai, the cafeteria seemed oddly empty. Renji took his lunch and walked over to a table that hadn’t filled up with other students yet. He sighed to himself quietly. He had a feeling that he probably would be eating lunch alone - or at least with others that weren’t Mizuko. He knew he was right when Sanada sat down across from hm. “Genichirou.” Renji greeted him.
Sanada nodded They sat in silence for a while as they ate. Actually, it was more Sanada ate while Renji pushed his food around trying to eat.
“Renji.” Sanada started. “You’re not doing yourself any favors by worrying so much.” Renji just looked over at him.. Oddly enough, Renji knew his friend was right.
“I know you’re right, it’s just...” Renji trailed off.
“I don’t quite understand it, but I suppose you have a right to. There hasn’t been any thing to make you worry?”
Renji shook his head. There hadn’t been anything to make the strange situation worse. “We haven’t heard anything from her parents, thankfully. She’s healed up pretty well, and I think that the lack of contact may have something to do with that.”
“Then why are you worrying?” Sanada asked him.
Renji paused. “I’m just not sure she should be back yet...” He trailed off. Sanada sat back and crossed his arms.
“I’m no psychologist, but wouldn’t getting back to a normal routine be more helpful?”
“I suppose so.” Renji admitted. “Besides, she does have therapy every week, so I suppose I really shouldn’t be too worried.” Renji smiled a little. “Besides, from what I saw after I left her at her classroom, she has Akaya to keep her amused.”
Sanada frowned. “Really?” Renji chuckled.
“Don’t worry, he’s not slacking off.” Renji assured him. “She wouldn’t let him.” Sanada nodded.
“I approve.” Sanada said. After that, Renji finally managed to eat.
There was still almost a half hour of their lunch break left. “Seiichi in the garden?” Renji asked. Sanada nodded. “Shall we pay him a visit then?” Sanada nodded again and the two headed up to the roof. On the way up the stairs, they passed several students that were on their way down from having eaten their lunch up in the fresh air. One students that passed them was a girl that was very angry and very red in the face.
“Was that...?” Renji started. Sanada turned around. Renji shook his head. “I’m not sure I want to know what happened now.” Renji said as they continued on their way to the rooftop garden.
The perfume of flowers and humidity struck their noses as they walked into the greenhouse that was the garden.
Yukimura Seiichi noticed them from the other side of the aisle he was on. “Hey, guys.” He called to them. The two walked over to him.
“Seiichi, you’re...ah...rather messy.” Renji pointed out to him.
“Plants can’t grow if you don’t get somewhat messy to help them.” Yukimura pointed out, smiling. “Besides, this poor thing was abougt to outgrow its pot, so I figured I’d get it transplanted before I forgot about it.”
Sanada grunted at that. “It’s not as if I can’t wash up before going back to class.” Renji nodded as well.
“Oh, is Niou up here?” Renji asked. Yukimura looked at Renji like he’d lost his mind.
“Him and Akari-chan were up here eating lunch when I came up here.” Yukimura told them. “Why?”
Sanada shook his head. Renji just sighed. Yukimura looked up from his careful planting of the flowers. “What did I miss?” He asked.
“We passed Akari-san on our way up here.” Sanada explained.
“Without Niou.” Renji filled in.
“Those two are the most dysfunctional couple I know.” Yukimura said. “Wonder what he did this time.”
“I’m sure I’ll know by the end of the evening.” Renji said. He glanced over towards where the strange couple usually sat, and saw Niou just sitting on a bench, looking like he was a lovesick puppy, even though he had a red mark across his face where he’d been slapped.
“I will never understand those two.” Sanada said.
“I don’t think you’ll ever understand anything about relationships.” Yukimura teased him. Even Renji had to chuckled a bit at that. Sanada pulled his hat down over his eyes to hide the red creeping up on his face.
“Ah, I have something to do before class stars.” Renji told them. “I should see to it before I forget.” With that he took his leave, leaving Sanada to the teasing wrath of Yukimura.
“Ugh! I can’t believe that guy The nerve!” A girl was raranting in Akaya and Mizuko’s classroom.
“Akari-chan, I’m sure it’s okay.” Mizuko was telling her, trying to get her to calm down. Akaya turned his head towards the commotion. “So, what did Niou-sempai do this time?” Mizuko asked. That really got Akaya’s attention.
Akari sputtered a bit. “He...agh...he groped me!” She finally said. “I can’t believe that guy!” Akaya looked at her.
“I’d grope you.” He said.
“Akaya!” Mizuko growled at him.
“Hey, she’s got huge tits. What guy wouldn’t? Unless they were gay or something...” He trailed off.
Akari was still too indignant to even think about the insulting things Akaya was saying. Mizuko just sighed. Hw did she make friends with these people?
“Akari-chan, face it, he’s got it hard for you.” Mizuko told her. Akaya snickered.
“I’m sure he does..” he muttered. Mizuk kicked him. Boys, can’t live with them, can’t live without them.
“Anyway!” She continued. “”I’m sure there has to be more to him than just wanting in your shirt… or bra.” Mizuko told her.
“Yeah, right.” Akari said. “I’m pretty sure that’s the only thing he has in mind.”
Renji walked in at the end of the conversation. “Who has what in mind?” He asked.
“Niou-sempai wants to screw Akari-chan.” Akaya filled him in.
“Akaya!” Both Renji and Mizuko admonished him.
Akari just snorted. “Well, he did sum it up pretty accurately.”
Renji just sighed. “That fills me in on a bit more on that.” He said. He should have known that he’d learn more of the story before the school day was over.
Renji cleared his throat. “I’m sure he he isn’t all just hormones at the moment. I think he just doesn’t know how to express what he does feel for you.” Renji wondered in the back of his mind why he was defending Niou - it wasn’t as if they were close friends. Perhaps as just a bit of sympathy for another relationship.
Akari just shrugged. “Well, he’d better learn to shape up.” She said. She smiled a little. “Yanagi-sempai, would you mind giving him a note for me?” She asked sweetly. Renji gulped. He hated when girls got that tone of voice.
“I...suppose so.” He agreed, fearing that both Akari and Mizuko would come down in a display of violence.
“Thanks.” Akari said, getting out a notebook and started writing furiously in it.
Renji turned away from the one half of a lover’s spat “How are you doing?” He asked Mizuko.
She smiled. “I’m doing good. Akaya’s hair is amusing me.” She said.
“More than it should.” Akaya muttered.
“I think I’m jealous.” Renji said. “Perhaps I should grow my hair out again...” He mused.
“Ive seen pictures of you when you were younger. It’s too straight to be any fun.” Mizuko said. “Akaya’s is a nice curly.” She said. Akaya groaned.
“Save me, sempai...” He whined.
“Unfortunately, unless either of you move up a year, there’s not really much I can do.” Renji said. High school first years could be some of the worst teens around.
Akari thrust a piece of paper under Renji’s nose. “I appreciate this sempai.” She said.
“I’ll see he gets it.” Renji said dryly, as the bell for classes to begin rang it’s warning. “I’ll see you later.” He told Mizuko and Akaya, and just nodded to Akari.
Renji sighed as he walked back to his own classroom. He looked at the note for Niou. It was tempting to read it. He considered it for a moment, and his curiosity finally got to hm. He lifted the first fold.
“Yanagi-sempai, I know you’re a snoop. For your own good, you’re better off not reading this. So, don’t say you weren’t warned if you choose to go on further.” Renji stared, then smiled. Perhaps it was just best to leave things as they were, and let Niou find out what was in store for him.

Niou stared at the letter from Akari that Renji had handed him, and as he read, his grin got wider and wider. “Knew she actually liked me.” He said, grabbing his phone. He should have an incoming picture message anytime. About thirty seconds later a “chirp chirp” of birds indicated he had a message. His grin faded as he stared at the picture.
There was a picture of two birds on the screen. There was a text sent shortly after it.
“Aren’t my tits lovely? ^.^” Renji looked over Niou’s shoulder and tried to keep a straight face. Niou just stared, his face getting a bit redder.
’Someone is finally starting to out trick the Trickster’ Renji commented, walking away.
“It’s not funny “ Niou yelled after him.
