I have this theory that the ring prevents brain damage. I mean, if Sodam Yat's ring can keep his lead poisoning from killing him, Hal's can keep his brain from getting scrambled. ^^;

I suspect Sodam's lead poisoning is because he is a Daxamite with Ion and the writers are trying to give him some kind of vulnerability. (Sodam is a Sue! :D I like him anyway. Same for Kyle.)
