Sometimes there were disadvantages to not having a coach. Students really shouldn't be performing first aid on their teammates when they were injured. Usually the opposing team's coaches would at least offer to help, but Rikkai was too proud to accept most of the time.
Kirihara Akaya was squirming under the antiseptic that Renji was trying to apply to his cuts and bruises. "That stings!"
"It's going to, Akaya." Renji said, still remaining calm and kept swabbing the boy's wounds.
Renji didn't know how he had been volunteered to be their medic. On the other hand, it had let him in on information he probably shouldn't have.
To date, he had treated Akaya too many times to count for things such as this, the stinging slaps Sanada tended to give the boy, and other, more normal injuries to hands, wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles.
He knew the real reason why Marui ate cakes before his matches. The only other people that knew were Yukimura, Sanada, and Jackal. The boy was actually a diabetic, and if he didn't his blood sugar would drop too quickly during a game. It was rare, but Renji and Jackal had actually had to carry Marui off the court before because he was acting very confused and had a very glazed over look in his eyes. Thankfully, he had came around rather quickly.
The other seniors were much better though. Niou occasionally scraped himself up, but it was rare. Though Renji was fairly sure Niou was the one stealing the occasional cottonballs and tape. Renji decided he was better off not knowing what Niou was doing with them.
Renji sighed as he finished up with Akaya and was putting everything away. He thought he'd better not get injured because he wasn't sure he trusted any of the rest of the team to treat him.
