Author's Notes: Mild, mild spoilers for ‘Land of Memories’ and ‘Good-bye, My Friend’. Written for Pyunma’s birthday (August 20, but since I’ll be busy with real life on that day, I’m posting it now). And this was very much inspired by the Pyunma fic miyuki_mina was kind enough to write me awhile back, ^^

Even now, he feels guilty about it.
What the Black Ghost did to him, to all of them, to Masado-- he’ll never forgive them for that, and he will make sure that they’ll never do it to anyone else. He still wakes up from nightmares of being alone, water pressure threatening to crush his bones, trying in vain to force something into his lungs. As he lies in bed, trying to sort out what’s real and what isn’t, he knows things will never be right again.
But when it’s like this, just him in the water, unhindered by gravity and surrounded by life forms he didn’t even know existed until he first came under water… it’s not so bad, really. A feeling comes over him, a strange sort of peace he has yet to feel when he’s above sea level.
The others wouldn’t understand. He’s not sure if he completely understands it.
008? Francoise’s calling him via the transmitter they all have in their heads. I don’t sense any signs of Black Ghost. Why don’t you come back?
… No, that’s okay. It can’t hurt to patrol one more time.
He doesn’t understand. Luckily, that doesn’t interfere with enjoying it
