It wasn't supposed to end like this. Ford wasn't supposed to be just...gone.
Bad enough Peter was dead. Rodney had done his best to make sure Peter's sacrifice hadn't been in vain. It should have been Rodney in that satellite, but Rodney knew better he survived to return to Atlantis than Peter. Peter couldn't begin to do what Rodney did.
But Ford.. Ford was just gone. He'd survived by some miracle only to be driven mostly insane by the enzyme that saved his life.
And now he was gone.
"We're gonna find him" John said his voice tight and strained. "Carson will figure out a way to reverse the effects and we're gonna find him. It's not going to end this way."
Rodney nodded.
Ford might be a pain in the neck brat so young he should never have been considered for this one way mission but he was their brat. Practically from the first day, Ford had been John's shadow, or Rodney's on missions.
"We're not losing him like this." John said again, Rodney wasn't sure he even realized he was speaking aloud.
"No, not like this." Rodney agreed.
Teyla nodded her own silent weary agreement.
