okay I really love this comm because I posted this over on my ff.net account as well, and some teenybopper left me the worst review and I was soooo bummed that this story wasn't as good as I originally thought it was, but then I saw all the lovely reviews that I got here from M/M and...

I WANT TO KISS YOU ALL ON THE MOUTH.

anyway, I am SO GLAD that you enjoyed this. as I mentioned at the beginning of the story, I love britta so much and I wanted to write a story that fit her character arch and growth. there's so much about her to love, and just because I don't ship her with jeff like I ship him with annie, doesn't mean that I don't want her to be happy. and, I think the whole underlying theme of this is that britta is a strong enough person that she doesn't NEED anyone else to make her happy--she's not only half of jeffandbritta--she's her own person, and I think, at least I hope, I was able to paint her as a strong, independent woman. also, I wanted to keep her arch as close to the canon plotline as possible, and I think it made the entire story more realistic.

also, schmitty? what a perfect name :)

the divorce was supposed to be an honest portrayal of the dissolution of a romance. there's no denying that they loved each other, but britta deserved more, and maybe jeff did too. it was also important to show jeff's growth as well, like you mentioned, where he makes sure britta is taken care of after they split. despite the fact that he very tight-lipped about his father, jeff (in this, at least) makes great strides to not repeat the same mistakes.

even though this was sort of a jeff/annie story, I really wanted to do something britta-centric, and also explore the relationship that she has with troy. there's a lot that he doesn't say, despite his propensity to chatter on and on :)

lastly, what was most important to me was the friendship and the strain between britta and annie. so often in this fandom, you're either team britta or team annie and it's so stupid, because they are both wonderfully flawed, intelligent women, and there needs to be less hate hurled between shippers.

but I digress.

thank you so much for reviewing! each time I post, I try to write in a different style, or with a different voice, and it was so much fun to write a britta-centric story.
thanks again for the review! :)

I don't see why it has to be either/or, I love both of them and they both deserve to have a good life. Yes I ship Annie and Jeff together but that doesn't mean the Britta is thrown to the side. I love her with troy, I am pretty sure Britta/Troy was my first ship. Something about Britta's compulsiveness to be right or adamant about something and Troy's ability to just go with the flow evening out eachother.

With that said; Jeff and Britta make the best friends. They are able to tease and fool around, knowing that they love eachother and that everything was said in a good natured way. I can understand them getting married; who doesn't want to fall in love and marry someone you know you have chemistry with? I can see them getting married and I can see the relationship going awesomely, but I can also see them splitting apart just the way you wrote it. It works because the scenarios are just so possi ke.

The study group is constantly trying to convince Jeff that he is a good person, and Jeff is just terrible at seeing the good in himself. Jeff insuring Britta is taken care of is heartwarming for me; my parents divorce was bad on all ends. Jeff and Britta really did love eachother, it just turned platonic.

Britta calling Annie and giving her her blessing was just beautiful (but I have to admit it seemed a bit ... fast. I know Britta and Jeff's romantic relationship was over long before the divorce, but I would think it'd still be a little raw.) The fact that she just wanted Jeff to be happy was heartwarming and every other fuzzy word you could use to describe the light feeling in my chest cavity.

The best part of the whole story was the cat's death (and that sounds horrible and I am now knocking on wood in hopes that karma doesn't bite me in the ass. I love my cat) because you could just tell that everything was as back to normal as possible at that point; Jeff was able to comfort her and not make it feel awkward and they both had someine new* in their lives.

Again, the story was marvelous and I'm sorry that I just wrote an essay.
Ps. Please disregard all spelling mistakes; I wrote this from my phone and it's not being very nice tobme right now :s
