Where my head has been

Yesterday, while walking with my walking buddy on the nature trail, we passed a couple talking to two women.  We overheard the couple saying how they met and as we walked away, I said, "Well, that just got stored in my mental scrap file to be pulled out later."

She asked me if I do that a lot.  I laughed and said, "I'm a writer.  Anything you say or do can and probably will be used in my next book."

She laughed and added, "You have the right to remain silent."

I seriously think I need to make a T-shirt with that on it.

Also yesterday, I took T to the optometrist because he failed the eye exam given by the school nurse--twice.  Turns out he's incredibly far-sighted and has astigmatism so he definitely needs glasses.  It explains so much.  He picked out some nice frames--thin, round, and bronze.  They looked really good on him.  They should be ready to pick up either tomorrow or Thursday.

Today I went for my daily walk by myself.  I took my notebook and camera with me.  I got some great pictures which I'll post at the end.  I brought my notebook because I've been struggling to write the past few weeks.  There's just been so many distractions and so much to do. (The upcoming half-days for the rest of the week plus spring break next week won't help in that dept). I figured a change of place would help jump start me.  So I took my walk, turned around a little beyond my normal turn-around point, and then sat at one of the two observation decks overlooking the marsh so I could write.  I got a few pages handwritten before I headed home.  After taking care of a few things around the house, I typed up what I'd written and got about 100 more words before I had to pick T up.  I'm hoping to find time again this evening to get some more in.

While on my walk, I kept stopping to take pictures.  It's still pretty early spring so the leaves are just baby leaves and some trees still haven't started budding yet.  The only animals currently allowing themselves to be seen are the birds.  So I have a lot of pictures of geese.  I stopped to take pictures of a Mommy Goose sitting on her nest with Daddy Goose swimming circles around it, patrolling.  A lady and her dog were sitting on a bench nearby.  After I got my pictures, she stopped me and told me that up ahead, before the next observation deck, was a bird she'd never seen before.  She said it had a white body, black head, and a red beak and feet.  She said it was gorgeous.  So of course, I hurried to try and find it.  I saw it and did manage to snap a picture of it as it swam away, but I had to zoom in a lot in Photoshop in order to see it.  Man, I really need a telephoto lens for my camera.

I saw the biggest bumble bee in my life as we were leaving piano lessons today.  It flew into the teacher's house before I could stop it.  I'm telling you, it looked like it was on steroids.  It was easily three times the size of a normal bumblebee.  I wish I could have gotten a picture.

And lastly, before I share my pictures from today, I just want to remind you all to check out my interview with meredith_wood right here.  Don't forget to leave a question for Meredith in the comments which she will answer in a follow-up interview next week.  Doing so will enter you for a chance to win a free copy of her book, Panthan's Crucible.  The contest is open until 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 16.

And now for the pictures.  Click on them to see them better.
