My baby's 6!

So yesterday was T's 6th birthday.  I can't believe he's that old already!  I can't believe I'm old enough to have a six-year-old.

Because I'm lazy and didn't feel like having to do any major cleaning up, we had his party at the park.  And boy did we luck out.  Friday it stormed and I thought for sure we'd have bad weather for the party, but it turned out to be a gorgeous day.  A bit on the chilly side when in the shade thanks to the breeze, but otherwise, gorgeous.

We had a good turnout and T had fun running around the playground with his friends while we adults sat in the pavilion, chatting and eating the fruit/veggies and tortilla chips we'd brought.  After a while, we rounded the kids up and had cake and ice cream.  T chose an Indiana Jones cake.  It surprised me.  I thought for sure he'd pick one of the two dinosaur cakes or the fire truck one they had on display, but nope, he wanted Indiana Jones.  All because of the toy cave and big rock that came with it.  But hey, it was his birthday, his cake.  As long as he was happy with it.  And he was.   After cake, he opened his presents.  He got quite a haul.  Along with the bed and spiderman bike we got him, he also got a Crayola Glow Station, a webkinz gecko (he's obsessed with that website now), some cool lego kits, a couple of Magic Tree House books, dinosaur toys, magnet playsets and other fun toys.  Even though he was exhausted by the end of the day, he had a blast.

My favorite part of the day:

T woke up at 7 a.m. and I heard him up and about.  I was laying in bed trying to grab a few more precious minutes of sleep when I heard him jumping around in his room yelling, "I'm 6!  I'm 6! I'm 6!" over and over.  It was so cute!

Friday, he'd come straight to our room when he woke up asking if he was 6 yet and he was so disappointed when I said not until tomorrow.  But he did get to have a party at school.  I brought in cupcakes and he got to wear a birthday crown which he also wore all day yesterday.  And he got presents from the secretary, his nurse, and the librarian too.

You know, as much as I lament how quickly he's growing up and wish he'd slow down, I really am enjoying this stage of his life.  It's so exciting to see him learn new things and explore his talents.  I'm looking forward to seeing what this next year will bring.

proud mama, are we having fun yet?
