Heavy metal music pounded throughout the dingy, hotel room and into their brains as their hot bodies, slick with the effects of their love making, slid together time and again. Their heavy breathing provided background for the singer's screams as they came repeatedly in response to each other's movements. She barely noticed when his lips moved off hers. He kept thrusting up into her, she riding his cock to full tilt, as his lips peeled back to reveal his fangs. Their eyes locked. She moved her head, and amongst her screams as well as the singer's, Spike's fangs slid home.

The scent of the flower drew him near. He knelt before it, cupped its tender, full blossom in his pale hands, and inhaled its sweet scent. It was no rose but smelled far better than any rose he'd ever encountered. His fingers stroked its red petals.
The flower reminded him of Willow, of her red hair and innocence, of her sweet smell. Their song played in his mind. Wolves mated for life. She was his only one; yet, he'd never have her again. Stopping himself from crushing the flower, he released it, turned, and ran off into the forest, howling.

She turned on her music and laid down. She tried to let the song take her back to a happier time, a more peaceful time, a time when her life hadn't been on the line every night, but she still couldn't stop thinking about the earlier events. If she hadn't managed to grab Drusilla when she had, she wouldn't be here now. She would've been killed. But she had taken the Vampiress by stake and Spike had released everybody because of that. His unwillingness for Dru to be killed was the only reason why she and the others still lived.
He could've killed her so easily but hadn't dared make a move once her stake'd been on Drusilla. He could've had the fame and power of killing another Slayer. He'd let victory slip through his fingers, let them all go. That, Buffy thought as her music played on, was true love, and yet it belonged to monsters. She wondered if Angel could ever love her enough to let go of everything else, to allow himself to be defeated, if her life was at stake. She hoped he would, and yet she also hoped she'd never have cause to discover it.

"Do you think he'll dance with me some day?" she asked as she waltzed to Heaven's music on the ninth cloud to which she'd floated. She held out her arms toward him and spun around again. "Do you, Doyle?" she persisted in asking. "Do you think my Angel will dance with me?"
"Sure he will, Princess," Doyle assured her quickly, his heart breaking at the truths he knew. He hoped she never looked down from the clouds to see the Slayer into whose arms her Angel had returned, but he skipped over clouds to join her. "I'll dance with ye now."

She swayed to a song only she could hear on top of corpses. He watched her dance, his eyes gleaming, until she turned to him and dropped the last one upon whom she'd been feeding. "Am I still pretty?" Her voice lilted as crimson blood dribbled down her pale chin.
Reaching her, he took her hand in his. "Am I still your pretty Princess?"
"Always, luv," Spike assured, kissing her pout away before licking Buffy's blood from Dru's chin. He lifted her into his arms. They waltzed on the Slayer and her friends, just as he'd promised her they would.

"We've got to get you to the hospital," Buffy babbles. Xander's blood gushes over her hands. She's trying to stop its flow, but it won't even slow. She knows she's losing him. Her terrified heartbeat pounding in her ears makes her think she can hear his heart instead of hers.
His hands clasp hers. He can hear a song playing on harps somewhere near and far. "We'll never make it in time."
"We have to!"
"We won't."
She cries.
"Buffy? Dance with me." He sways against her.
"Xander -- "
"Dance with me like you did before back in the Bronze when we were young." She does.
Her body slides against his. She knows this is wrong, and she can't stop crying. Yet she also knows that this provocative dance is her friend's last request. He never stopped loving her, she realizes, and sobs again.
He holds to her as the world spins around him and then begins to fade. He feels the song he's always felt thrumming between their bodies. He wishes she could have loved him.
She presses her forehead against his. She kisses him, though still knowing it's wrong. He falls against her, but when she closes his eyes, he's still smiling.
