Outside the TARDIS, Wednesday afternoon

Jul 12, 2006 10:43

The Doctor's lawn chair was out again, and he was sitting reading a copy of 'Martin Chuzzlewit'. Another chair was set up next to him, in case anyone decided to drop by.

As it was, he was simply enjoying his reading.

[ooc: Mainly here for Isabel, but slowplay interaction with other is perfectly fine, thanks.]

After cheerleading, Isabel headed into town. A blue police box shouldn't be that hard to find.

And it wasn't.

"Excuse me," she said as she approached. "Are you the Doctor?"

The Doctor looked up from his book. "That I am," he said. "What can I do for you?"

"Hi! I'm Isabel Evans," she replied. "I'm in your workshop. But I have a small problem."

"What sort of problem?" he asked, closing his book. He gestured to the open chair. "Feel free to take a seat, if you like."

"Thank you," Isabel said, perching on the edge of the chair. "Hopefully a small one. I need to go home to Roswell this Thursday. I won't be home till the following Saturday. I'll have to miss the first two classes."

"Horrible way to start the class," the Doctor said. "But we can work something out fairly easy. Get a friend in the class to take extra careful notes, for one." He tapped his chin. "And if you could provide me with a short hundred word essay on your greatest fear, and come prepared in the third week with some event from Earth history, those would be the assignments you'll be missing."

"That I can do," she nodded. "A bunch of friends are in the class as well. One of them will take notes for me. The essay and the event sound easy enough to do."

Isabel sighed, "I know I'm probably the umpteenth person to ask the question, but are you any relation to the last Doctor that lived here in a blue police box?"

"He's me. Either an alternate me from the future, or my actual future self. We didn't really figure that one out," the Doctor said. "So I'm essentially the same person, just more charming and less old."

Considering that Isabel was a recreated version of a alien princess, that explanation really didn't phase her. "I never actually met him in person, so I really can't compare. I'll have to take your word for it." She turned over his explanation in her mind, "That means you wouldn't know Jack Harkness would you? Because you haven't met him yet because that you is your future," Isabel said, frowning in concentration. "Sorry, time travel still confuses me."

"I know Jack, yes," the Doctor said. "I understand the young Mister Harkness here has lost a bit of memory, as well."

"You do? But how?" Isabel looked around, fairly certain that she was safe out in the open and that the Doctor wasn't a threat. But Jack's worries about Torchwood and what they could do to her lingered. "You wouldn't know anything about how or why his memory is gone this time would you?"

"I only know thanks to young Miss Carter informing me," the Doctor said. "I know nothing as to the hows and whys, unfortunately."

"So much for easy answers then," Isabel said, although she suspected as much. "You'll meet him Friday. More then likely he'll be the one taking notes for me. He owes me for taking care of him when he was a fox."

"When has Jack Harkness ever not been a fox?" the Doctor asked with a chuckle.

"You do have a point. But this time he was small, furry, and four-legged," she laughed. "Since he was lacking in opposable thumbs it meant he wound up rooming with me for a week."

"Well, I'm glad you took care of him," the Doctor said. "Forgive me if you already mentioned, but why will you be missing the next two weeks?"
