Something was still buzzing and rattling around inside the island. The mist hadn't gone, the mainland hadn't reappeared, the internet was still down... and enormous rabbits still roamed the island.
Worse, overnight, the island had flooded with other creatures. In the preserve, the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus menaced the teal deer if they dared move too close to the trees. The nauga, a ferocious beast indeed, crawled through the brush. Alligators stepped out into the streets, firing off goldfish at anyone who dared come near.
And that wasn't all. Jackalopes, snipes, drop bears, hoop snakes and wild haggis had mingled and mixed with the population. Overnight, the island had turned from a quiet Maryland refuge into something worse than the Australian outback.
At least the teal deer had found their defender: a snarling alot of teal appeared in the midst of the forest come noon, lashing out at nearby tree octopi. They would not be abandoned.
