Zack wasn't completely certain what they were, admittedly, but the shelter now had about a dozen of them. They were kind of cute if he squinted, but Mr. Winkles was giving them a beady side-eye from where he was perched on Zack's shoulder, so he probably wasn't going to be keeping them around as the shelter's mascots or anything, like his little gerbil friend.
Their shells were kind of neat, though.
