Alright, Jono was here. Jono was totally not freaking out in the least. Jono had set up a few mics and patch cables onstage in case anybody showed up and wanted to jam, and

There are refreshments besides beer, fortunately, if you just want to bum around and take in whatever music might get played onstage today. Soda and potato chips, mostly. Jono does not have the gourmet finesse of his husband.

Hey, it could only be a disaster if the place burned to the ground.
Probably. Either way, Jono was making his way over, doing his damnedest to look welcoming even while on fire. It wasn't as easy as it sounded, but he had plenty of practice.
//Afternoon,// he said, pleasantly. //Here for the tryouts?//

Xanthippe was quick with saying "What? No." because there were few things more embarrassing than admitting things like being nervous. So, she looked like it was the most ridiculous thing he could've said.
Of course, a beat later her expression got a little uncertain. "But, uh, I'm not sure if this is, like... the right place for me?"

Jono considered that, looking toward Dante's guitar, and then tilted his head back toward her.
//Well... what've you got there? The poster said all musical styles for a reason, luv. I mean, my husband's here today too, and he plays the harpsichord.//
And the keyboard, and the theremin. Details. Let's classical this up a notch just to make a point.

Jono's expression (or as much of his expression as was possible) lit up a little in interest.
//I like oboe,// he replied. //Can't play it myself, I mean, but it'd go well with Hannibal's harpsichord. Actually, he's hugely enthusiastic about classical music in the same way I'm into rock and alternative. And I think Lucille is planning on playing piano...//
He tilted his head at her.
//You'd know better than me, what pairs well with oboe?//

Xanthippe cast a glance aside, towards the other people who'd shown up. It was kind of a weird mix of instruments.
At least for an oboe player.
"Usually, like, woodwinds and brass instruments?" she offered. You know, like band had. "But uh, the piano." She'd seen some pretty great piano-and-oboe stuff on Youtube, but she was still trying to keep the geek under wraps.

... She was going to spend way too long by the refreshments table first, though. Contemplating her life choices.

Or just the crisps?

"... Are you always on fire?"
Of course, it meant she forgot to pretend she wasn't blunt as hell, too.

//All the time. Unless the island makes me a woman for a day or two, for whatever reason.//
Then he just had great tits.

"So uh, wait, what were you saying before you... were on fire?"
Okay, he'd been on fire before he'd ever started talking in her head, but he knew what she meant!

//I was asking if you were here for the tryouts,// he repeated. //Thinking of trying out yourself?//

She was just being an ungodly level of awkward about it, for social hierarcy reasons.

//Well, you've made it this far,// he mused. //Nervous?//

//No? Were you expecting something different?//
Was it the fire? Jono hoped it wasn't the fire.
Reply
"I don't know, I wasn't expecting the guitar."
Because she was a secret band geek. And had by now realized she'd come out here with expectations skewed in that direction, for no actual reason.

Then: "I play oboe."
So. Not very cool.

Very expensive neo-grunge flannel wraps.
