After debating back and forth, and a lot of input from Chopper (honestly, some of his ideas...), Hera had finally, reluctantly, settled on a name for her new business ( Read more... )

She's around, and would probably welcome a distraction.

"Syndulla, huh?" Yeah, Kanan had seen the sign, and he couldn't help but come ask about it, now. That was one hell of a name she'd saddled this place with, after all, and it couldn't possibly get any farther from 'Imperial' if she'd tried. "What, after Cham?"

Seemed like the sort of person a Twi'lek revolutionary would want to pay homage to, at least.

... Maybe not usually with a junkyard, though.

Hera grimaced. "Well, I think he'd hate it, so...absolutely." She shrugged. "It was the only thing Chopper and I didn't absolutely hate."

Well, that was... unusual. Kanan blinked and tilted his head a little in question.

"I take it you're not exactly Cham's biggest fan, then?"

That seemed odd, all things considered. Kanan was clearly missing something, here.

"It's...complicated," Hera said, wrapping her arms around herself. "He's done a lot of good for Ryloth. But he tends to ignore everything else."

"I... I get the feeling that I just stepped in something," Kanan observed, frowning faintly. "Want me to back off?"

He didn't even need the Force to tell him that he'd hecked up!

Hera sighed and gave him a smile that was just a little sad and a little amused at the same time. "We've all got our histories, I guess."

She stuck out her hand. "Pleased to meet you. Hera Syndulla."

Kanan reached to shake that offered hand about two seconds before his brain caught up with that introduction.

And then his mouth fell open and he just sort of stood there stupidly for a moment.

"You aren't pulling my leg."

Small galaxy.

Hera gave him a sour look. "I don't joke about my father."

Maybe she should; it might be healthy. But she did still mostly respect him, even if they didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things.

This... this explained so much, really. And even so, Kanan looked the slightest bit dazed.

"Oh, did I ever step in it," he muttered, scratching his beard awkwardly. "Should we change the subject? I feel like maybe now would be a great time to change the subject."

Before his inner fanboy kicked in and he started asking a million questions. Because Cham Syndulla.

"Before I get started on too much, probably," Hera agreed. "I don't mind you asking, but I don't know I want to say a lot right now. Mostly I just thought it sounded good for a name, and it'd be a good way of spotting anyone who might be trouble."

"It absolutely would be that," Kanan agreed, smiling wryly. "That name's an attention-grabber."

For obvious reasons. Ones that he wasn't going to point out, because... really, he'd just get himself smacked, at this rate.

"Either way... it is a good name. It alliterates nicely."

"Thanks; I thought so." Hera snorted. "It beats 'Chopper's Chop Shop'."

"You'd have a great time getting people to land their ships here if you'd gone with that one," Kanan chuckled. "I'm certain Chop is absolutely heartbroken, though."

"I think he's mostly over his sulk by now, but I wouldn't leave your shoes or socks lying around the ship anytime soon," Hera said.

He might never find them again. Or they'd be covered in motor grease.

"It's usually best just to give him space."

"I'm starting to realize that. I've met a lot of temperamental droids in my lifetime, but I'm pretty sure Chopper outdoes them all."

Kanan's shoes and socks were going to stay in his apartment or on his feet, where they belonged. It was the only safe option.
