Well, Goodnight would be remiss as to not treat his companion to breakfast before he... left again. Which was something creeping up that Goody would very much care to pretend wasn't happening ( Read more... )

Well Billy for one wasn't about to let the thing go to waste. It'd cost an arm and a leg by 19th century standards.

But for now, he was just enjoying the companionable silence before Goody could work himself up into some tizzy about... everything.

He would be wounded by the implication that he would be dramatic about something. Deeply wounded.

"I should have taken you to New Orleans," Goody lamented suddenly. "For proper coffee and beignets."

There were seriously a lot of 'should haves' going on with him this weekend.

"Goody." Look, if Louisiana was anything like Texas, Billy would have ended up stabbing some idiot in a bar.

"I should have," Goody insisted, despite the sheer exasperation Billy managed to pour into his name. Which wasn't fair in the slightest, Mr. Rocks.

Billy rolled his eyes at that, taking a drag of the cigarette before handing it over for Goody.

"I didn't need to go to New Orleans."

"I will assume that is merely because you have never been," Goody replied, leaning back a little as he breathed out smoke.

"Sure," Billy replied with a tiny smile.

"You wound me, Billy," Goody replied.

And it managed to relax him a little despite his best efforts at being a drama queen.

That could have also been the cigarette, but who knew?

Billy took another sip of the too sweet, too milky drink, making a face at it before putting it down. With his hands free, he fished out the flask that had been left with him after... everything had happened.

He held it out for Goody to take. It was his after all. Had a fleur de lis and everything.

How would anyone know he was Cajun if he didn't cover everything he owned with them, Billy? How would anyone know?

Goody froze up at the sight of it, distinctly remembering their last conversation in that damned bell tower as he took it on reflex. "You really can't stay?"

Billy shook his head, looking down at the ground rather than at him. He didn't like this any more than Goody did.

He pressed his shoulder more firmly against Goody's instead of just saying that.

Well, Goody was the talker. At length. Other than right now, that is.

He ran his thumb over the fleur de lis on the flask before offering it back to Billy. "You keep it," he said. "Until--until I see you again. I always come back for it, don't I?"

That sort of logic Billy could accept, putting the flask back where he'd had it the entire weekend before now. "You do."

"Had things been different," Goody began, being terribly daring as he placed his hand on Billy's wrist.

"I know." Because why talk about things when they were just, you know, there. Plain as day.
