There were... things. Things with snappy jaws and big claws, rooting around in the space just below the island's foundation.
They itched.
And so, so early in the morning it was basically night, the island blinked away. It reappeared - to no doubt great relief - somewhere covered in the darkness of night. If you squinted at the horizon, you could maybe see vague neon colors, shifting around like bioluminescent jellyfish in the darkness-- or the scenery during a game of Glow-in-the-Dark golf. But otherwise, it was dark.
When the sun came back up, it would be over a planet full of
bizarre colors and gentle aliens, with a small hamlet nearby that would be happy to introduce you to the local fauna. Or serve you a drink that looked like it was
made of stardust. Or... bubble at you.
Yes, bubble.
But for now, it was dark. In that laser tag arena kind of way.
