Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Brunch, The Park, Sunday Morning

May 29, 2016 04:15

Hopefully, everyone still had a little socialization in them yesterday after the mixer. There was still plenty of Tamsin's booze reserves to be shared, which would go nicely with all of the breakfast foods being served.

Each of the tables had a pot of coffee as well, just in case that was needed. There was no glitter in the coffee, promise.

Hey, now. Kanan wouldn't call what he was doing lurking. He was just... sitting off to the side with a large cup of coffee, being semi-antisocial. It was lurking if you cut an imposing figure, somehow.

Mostly.

As the Jedi with the blindfold who appeared to be far more interested in the contents of his cup than in most of what was going on around him, he was absolutely calling 'not lurking,' that morning. He was just staying out of the way. Big difference.

Hannibal saw Kanan and came over, adjusting his naturally silent stride to rustle the grass a bit. As always, he had his bag with him, with two thermoses in it, one of which he pulled out now.

"May I interest you in some proper caf?"

Kanan's mouth twitched faintly. Something almost a smile. He would have known Hannibal coming from across the island. It was hard not to notice the weird knot of confusing Dark that twisted around him.

Still and all, he'd been good for a lot of people here. That twitch ended in a smile.

"You know I'm always interested in proper caf," he shared. "Especially around here."

Hannibal opened the thermos and held it out, waiting for Kanan to get a firm hold on it.

"How is your orchard doing?" he asked. "Will you have a good harvest this year?"

"It's looking that way," Kanan replied, giving Hannibal a wry little grin as he lifted the thermos in a casual salute. "Plenty of blossoms this year so far. So long as the weather cooperates, there should be plenty of jogan left over after I sell to my usual buyers in town."

"I have a new recipe; it was written for papaya, but I'm looking forward to trying it with jogan." Hannibal smiled. "Get me some early enough, and you could sell the pastries as well."

He was never above bribing someone for the best ingredients.

"Well, I'll have to send your shipment off before I head into market, then. We'll want to pick it before it ripens too much if we don't want it to spoil while it ships."

He'd get the droids right on that, once they had flowers and not fruit.

"It's a shame meiloorun won't grow on Lothal. I still think you'd have fun trying to figure out ways to use it."

"Perhaps they'll find a way yet," Hannibal said, "once agriculture comes back into its own. Until then, jogan it is."

"There's still a lot of work to be done to bring Lothal back to the way it was before the Empire," Kanan agreed, sighing. "But even then, nobody ever had any luck."

He pursed his lips for a moment, thoughtfully, before taking a mouthful of caf from the thermos. Not bad. Not bad at all.

"It might be worth trying to grow here, actually."

"Find me a few fruits and a list of its requirements. It couldn't hurt to try." Hannibal shrugged. "Even one or two trees would give me some to eat and you some to sell."

"Somewhere that they can sprawl, for a start," Kanan replied with a wry smile. "A meiloorun is a melon."

Less tree, more creeping vine. Which, in fairness, would've been easier for Kanan to grow.

"One or two vines, then," Hannibal corrected. "We can see what the island makes of them. Plant them out by the pillow trees."

"Pillows and meilooruns..." Kanan shook his head, chuckling a little. "You know, I always forget about those pillow trees. And I remember kicking myself when I discovered they were there, after spending weeks with nothing comfortable to sleep on back when I was new to the island. Somebody really should make a 'getting started' pamphlet for new residents."

"That's likely what your 'teaching buddy' is supposed to be for," Hannibal said. "But there are so many things to acquaint people with, some are bound to slip through the cracks."

A thought occurred to him. "Dear lord, I hope they don't crossbreed. Can you imagine?"

"Pillows that ooze juice whenever you lay your head on them? Melons with feathers inside of them?"

Only on Fandom did that seem feasible.
