It was the Valentine's Dance and while, unlike some previous years, pollen wasn't in the air (yet), glitter certainly was. Gallon and gallons of it

Glitter. Yes, she had been told there would be glitter, but Lucille hadn't expected those quantities. She hoped it wouldn't stick to her new dress. It had cost more than she could afford, really, but she felt quite beautiful wearing it. She was used to long-sleeved dresses, so this one was rather brave.
The decor was interesting. At least there were no rats.

"Oh, wow. Lucille, that dress is beautiful!" That particular enthusiastic tone of voice was probably at least a little familiar to the other girl by now.
"You look so elegant!"
Which one probably couldn't say of Ringo, considering her own wardrobe. Which involved a new dress, just not one that most people would describe as "elegant".

Oh no. Lucille turned to face Ringo, the smile on her face not particularly genuine. She was about to return the compliment, naturally not very sincerely, when she saw what the other girl was wearing.

There was glitter in Ringo's cleavage. What with the dress failing to cover so much of it.
Ringo caught that tone of voice, but totally misinterpreted it. She glanced down at her feet. Where she had heels giving her an extra three inches of height. "I know, they are kind of silly, and I'm not really very used to them. But they do make my completely bare calves look nice, don't they?"

Ringo's smile was just a bit awkward. "Yeah. It's, um, not my usual style? But I figured I should try something different. You know, get out of my comfort zone a little bit."
She shrugged. "I'm trying to make myself try new things, you know?"
Looking down at herself, Ringo sighed. "It doesn't look terrible, does it?"

It hadn't occurred to her, to be honest. But one day it would, and she would, and it'd be awesome.
"Not yet, but I was thinking about heading out there. It's a lot of fun, you know?" She grinned. "If you want, I could teach you the style?" Since it was clearly just that ignorance keeping Lucille where she was.

"Well, not on purpose." Ringo sighed, but it was more amused than frustrated. "But the stuff is everywhere, and it seems to be really good at sticking to skin."

"You surprise me," she said finally. "I had not expected you to choose such an extravagant indecent dress."

Indecent, Ringo. That's the word she would use.

"So have you done any dancing yet?"

She was almost surprised that Ringo hadn't brought her rolling shoes, considering what people were doing on the dance floor.

"I see you have covered yourself in glitter." Not that Lucille was entirely glitter-free herself, but she had made an effort to avoid it.

Exposed skin, that was.

"You've got some in your hair, too." In case Lucille didn't know.

"Terribly inconvenient."
