Something had changed lately. Mike couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he knew he had no objections to it. He felt like he was breathing more freely than he had since - God, what? Thanksgiving? It had been a while, and he couldn't really say why he was feeling better now. Maybe it was the approaching spring, even if he couldn't actually feel anything even vaguely spring-like on the island yet. Maybe it was just knowing that spring was coming, and then summer after, that made him feel more comfortable in his skin again.
Whatever it was, it also contributed to him not feeling as wiped out after a day of hard work as he had, say, a month ago.
So after coming into the Perk after work this evening, and after getting himself a nice cup of coffee, he made a deal with the barista and gave her money that she told her should cover the cost of coffee for the next person to come in. (Provided they didn't order something particularly complicated and expensive - then they'd just get a considerable discount.) He was feeling good. It felt like a good idea to try and pass that on.
Maybe he'd even get a conversation out of it. He settled down at his favorite table by the window, with his coffee in front of him. It was a good day.
[ooc: Open place in town is open, yo. Come claim your free coffee.]
