Cara had woken late to an empty pantry and an equally empty fridge, which was as good a reason as any to stop by the Perk.

"Jim," she said, placing her drink and a pastry on the table and dropping into the seat opposite him. Because actually asking if it was free was for other people.

"Cara," Jim said, looking amused at the fact that she was making herself right at home. "What's happening? Out for a walk and couldn't resist stopping in when you saw me through the window?"

This, plus the fact she'd started talking to him of her own free will, was practically a bear hug from her.

"Yes. Exactly." She hadn't seen him until she'd come in. "I don't know how I'm keeping from throwing myself at you."

"I know it's hard but you have to resist," he said, nodding sagely. "What are you doing wandering around town anyway?"

Cara shrugged. "Getting food." If you could call something that looked to be half-icing food. She picked at it with gloved fingers. "You?"

"I'm a visitor, I can wander around town all I want and use that as an excuse," Jim told her, leaning back. "Plus, I was bored at home. Needed something to do."

"So you came here to look out windows?" As opposed to spending large amounts of time hiding in your apartment. "Thrilling."

"That's what I'm doing now," Jim pointed out, waggling a finger at her. "Later, I might go out and feed some flamingos or something. Least I'm outside."

Cara raised an eyebrow at the finger wagging. "Aren't you worried the birds will be even less able to resist your charm than I am?"

Though Jim getting chased by flamingos would be an amusing sight.

"No," he said confidently. "Animals love me. I'm like an animal whisperer."

Maybe Cara would get to seem him attacked by angry waterfowl...

"So you're saying you murmur sweet nothings in their ears?" she asked. "Does this include farm animals?"

"No, I'm saying they know goodness when they see it," Jim told her, shrugging. "Don't push your farm animal fantasies on me."

"You're the one who said they were bored," Cara pointed out. "And brought up molesting flamingos."

"Feeding flamingos is molesting them to you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "You need a dictionary."

"You mean you weren't going to go up to innocent birds and attempt to entice them to you by throwing bread at them?" Somehow Cara managed to make that sound dirty. It was a gift, really.

"No, I was going to be charitable and provide them food that they might not be getting from anyone else because I have a big, big heart," Jim told her, rolling his eyes.
