There was something going on down at the school today? What, new students? Great. Nikolai never really had any reason to go down that way anyway, not unless there was something actively trying to kill everyone on the island and it was important to hit the books. But even so, days like today he was happy to have an excuse to steer clear. Sit at his desk. Make some calls back to L.A.. Try to smooth things over with his boss at the agency by explaining for the hundredth time that he could do most of his job over the phone anyway, he needed more time out here, yeah, yeah, there was a specialist he was seeing for that thing he picked up in Greece and everything.
He didn't like lying to the guy, but he was still working out a routine, figuring out how he was going to play the role of the Gorgon back home without anyone catching on to the whole 'Nick started wearing dark shades around the same time an optic-themed hero started crawling out of the woodwork.' That sort of thing.
