All and Sundries, 3/29

Mar 29, 2006 11:09

Edmund's lips were blue when he opened the store that morning. Apparently he'd had a very cold bath that morning. Oddly, it wasn't the first one he'd had in the past 24 hours. Who knows why?

He's drinking a hot toddy and delving into the fantastic world of Jules Verne. He can get this science fiction thing. Really.

All and Sundries is open.

Victor came in just before lunchtime and walked right up to the counter. "Hey, Edmund. How are you today?"

Edmund searched his memory for a reason why the green boy would be calling him by his first name. Oh yes. How unfortunate.

"I find the day to be a bit chilly. May I help you with something?"

"Yeah, it's pretty cold out there. Good thing your store is warm." he smiled and continued. "Hey, I was wondering if you sold gift cards or something like that?"

"Gift cards?" Edmund frowned. More. "We have a full selection of Hallmark cards."

"No, I mean...um..." With Edmund's snappy new haircut, he'd forgotten that the storekeeper might have not been from his timeline. or planet, even. "It's a little plastic card that people buy so that they can give it to someone else to come back to the store and buy what they want. For example, let's say I buy a $20 gift card from you, right? I pay you $20 for the plastic, who I give to someone else, who comes back to your store, shows you the card, and spends that $20 I paid you. Does that make any sense?" He sure hoped it did, and that he wasn't sounding condescending.

[ooc: Sorry, LJ.]

"You wish to purchase store credit for another person," Edmund said, being out of time, not out of mind.

"I do not have any of these plastic cards you describe, but I do keep records for those with store credit. For whom do you wish to buy this?"

"Cool, thanks! I'd like to put thirty dollars down for Alfred. I don't remember his last name, but he owns Cafe Fina."

"I believe that I can do that. Just tell him to see me when he comes in. Not that he has a choice."

Victor nodded and handed Edmund a ten and a twenty, the pointed back at the shelves. "I'm gonna go browse the shop a little bit, okay? I'll be right back." A few minutes later, he came back with a package of fortune cookies. "I'll take these, too."

"Of course." Edmund wrote up a store credit for Alfred, owner of Cafe Fina and nodded when Victor returned to the register.

"If that will be all your total will be something handwavily reasonable."

Yay handwavey resonable!

Victor paid Edmund the money for the fortune cookies and put them in his messenger bag. "Thanks for everything, Edmund. Do I, uh, need a reciept for the credit or do I just tell Alfred he has it?"

"Just inform him that he has the credit. It is in my books."

"Great! Thanks again, Edmund!" he gave a smile and a wave, then headed back out into the chilly afternoon.
