Buffy was doing a bit of late spring cleaning at the bar. Some of the cheaper liquor nobody used had gathered quite a bit of dust. It was really gross, actually.

"Can a guy get a drink around here?" Sam asked, sounding pretty amicable about it.

"That's the idea of a bar," Buffy said, shaking off a dusty rag. "What can I get you?"

"A beer. I'm thinking... something domestic." Yeah, Sam was putting faith in his bartender.

"You're better off just telling me a name." 'Cause Buffy still didn't know the difference.

That got a laugh out of him. Possibly because he thought she was being a funny bartender. God love him.

"Miller is fine."

"Oh good, I know what that looks like," she said, going for the bottle. "You got lucky there."

"You not get many beer orders here?"

It was an oddly fancy bar. With a dance floor. And a VIP area. What was up with that?

"We don't get many orders at all here," Buffy said, placing the bottle on the bar. Too bad if you wanted a draft. Too bad. "You're interrupting my magazine reading time."

"I can go if you want," Sam offered playfully.

"Be a waste of a beer," she said with a small smile. "You new here?"

"New enough," Sam admitted, offering a hand to shake. "Name's Sam."

"Buffy," she said, shaking the offered hand. "What brings you to town?"

"Got a job and an apartment that was basically free." He was beginning to notice the catch, though. Oh, was he ever.

"Yeah, I got a house in somewhat the same manner," Buffy said, shaking her head at herself. "Probably should have known better."

"You too? You'd think people would have warned about this."

"No, it was my fault. I should have known I couldn't escape weirdness," Buffy said. "This place is relaxing compared to my old town."
