The Android's Dungeon, Thursday

Squall stomped into his shop angrily this morning. He'd ordered tables and chairs nearly two months ago -- nothing fancy, just something so that people could sit and play games in the store. Squall had weeks fighting with the supplier, who seemed to keep losing the order. In frustration, he'd cancelled the purchase and ordered them from a different supplier -- who also failed to deliver. He'd just discovered that his own clerk -- a die-hard comic-book fan who resented cards and games taking center stage in the store -- had been delaying and cancelling the orders behind his back.

Today was NOT a good day to be that clerk.

Except that when Squall got to the Android's Dungeon, he wasn't there. Instead, there was a strange new person standing behind the counter. He was not much older than Squall, but he weighed twice as much and had long hair and a scraggly mess on his face that was probably supposed to be a goatee. And he was intently playing a Nintendo 3DS.

The man's eyes flicked up off the screen for a second, registering Squall's presence, but his attention never really left the game. "You must be Mr. Leonhart. Randall was busy, so I promised to cover his shift," he explained.

Squall glared. "Busy?"

"By 'busy', I mean he moved out-of-state. For health reasons."

Squall facepalmed. "And by 'cover his shift'...?"

"My W-4." It was impressive how the man reached down for the paper and set it on the counter without his eyes leaving his game. "I also swept the back room, dusted the shelves, and put things people will actually want to buy on the rack of featured titles."

"..." It was far from the ideal way to hire someone, but then again Squall didn't want to run the place by himself. He pouted grumpily.

"Also, people tried to deliver some furniture, and I sent it back. I know I was supposed to, but it didn't feel right."

Squall facepalmed again. He could feel a headache brewing. "No. That's NOT right. I need to go make a call."

[OCD-free today. New NPC George is unabashedly stolen from El Goonish Shive because NPCs are fun to play with.]
