Jono hadn't come out of his room today -- and Squall wasn't entirely sure he was actually in there -- but today was Rinoa's birthday, and that meant a celebration.

Squall smiled across the table at Rinoa once they were seated. "Another year, another celebration," he observed. "I'm glad we get to have this one in Fandom."

Oh, hey, was everyone enjoying Rinoa's bling? She certainly was. She had a feeling Squall had just walked into a jewelry store and thrown a lot of money at whoever was working behind the counter. She was exactly the sort of princess to appreciate that.

"This is excellent champagne," she said. "You know, we should call this 'our' restaurant. I mean, officially. That's a thing, isn't it?"

They'd had plenty of dates here. Why not?

"I hope you mean 'unofficially'," Squall corrected her. "Between the magic shop and the card shop, we're running low on money." And the bling. Because it had been totally worth all the huge amounts of money it cost.

"But you're right -- the champagne is excellent."

Rinoa waved off the thought. "I don't mean we should buy it," she said. "You know. A couples kind of thing. They have, like, 'our' song, and 'our' restaurant, and ... I'm not sure what else."

She lifted her glass of the really wonderful champagne (which certainly wasn't helping their financial situation). "What should we toast?"

"Oh, okay," Squall answered. "Then yes, this is definitely 'our' restaurant." He raised his glass to her and smiled. "To us," he said. "To Fandom. To coming home."

"To all of that," she said, warmly, clinking glasses with him. "It does feel like home here, doesn't it? That's what I've been missing. Having a home. Galbadia isn't, and Timber isn't."

Squall nodded. "Here, there's nobody asking us to be anything other than who we are. Although... really, home is wherever you are."

[angelo_wings]

"Same for you," she grinned. "And Angelo. Angelo gets to be included in that, right?"

Of course she did. Rinoa had brought Angelo along when they saved the world. She was just part of her now.

She blinked, suddenly. "Do you think she counts as a familiar?" she asked. "I mean, like, could she? Witches get familiars but I don't know about Sorceresses."

Squall shrugged "She can do things that would be impossible for most other dogs, and she understands English almost as well as Zell. I think that counts."

"She did all of that before I was a Sorceress," Rinoa laughed. "I bet I can get away with telling that to people, anyway. Bring her along to important diplomatic functions."

"Maybe she's a Sorceress, too," Squall suggested. Who knew? "If you bring her along to things, nobody's really going to be argue no matter what you tell them. You are the Sorceress, after all."

"Maybe she's just the best dog ever," Rinoa countered. "Do they have dog Sorceresses? I can't imagine --"

Okay, it was impressive how Angelo sort of just ... appeared, wherever she was needed. Like, even if there was seriously no physical way for her to be there.

"... okay she can't actually be a Sorceress. Right?"

She... was definitely impressive, that was for sure.

"Of course not," Squall answered. "She's your familiar."

If she had been sitting closer, Rinoa might have smacked him. But that would involve getting up, so she was just going to roll her eyes.

"I wish we knew more," she said. "About the Sorceress powers, I mean. We're not even sure how the powers know to find a Potential. Or what makes someone a Potential. Or even what's going on with Ellone."

Ellone may not have anything to do with Sorceresses. Maybe she was something else entirely. Did anyone even know for sure?

"Well, that's why we're here," Squall told her. "One of the reasons, anyway. But not tonight -- tonight is for celebrating your birthday."

"Anything exciting planned?" Rinoa asked, taking another sip of her champagne. The expensive champagne, that he had paid for, after he bought her that really impressive bling.

Princess, Squall.

"Did you want something exciting tonight?" Squall asked, a little worried. "I thought a romantic dinner and maybe a movie would be enough."
