The Boards, Wednesday Evening - Auditions!

Sep 25, 2013 08:30

It seemed like damn near forever since Jonothon had held one of these. That was, yes, in part because the Boards hadn't done anything through the summer. It was also because, with Glacia moving at double Fandom's pace, summer had been a long ordeal that had involve a good portion of winter, too ( Read more... )

Talk to the Director...s? apocalipped September 25 2013, 11:34:26 UTC
Jono finally sucked it up and asked (or, well, voluntold) someone to help him pull this thing off. His own singing voice is a little rough these days. The extra help will go a long way.

When they tag in!

Jono was not a tea person, no. But Jono was drinking tea all the same, in the hopes that it would soothe his throat enough to help him coach anyone who needed singing help, if only a little bit.

... Barring that, there was his guitar, yes. But... singing voice!

The smell of chai with whipped cream and cinnamon couldn't hurt, could it?

"What kind of people have we got so far?" Kenzi asked, perching on the seat-back next to Jono, and waving his new cup near him. She was slurping a salted caramel mochachino and she was not going to share.

"Girls," Jonothon reported. "Two who are definite show... women. One who'll give it her all and do a good job of it, I'm sure. And one who isn't actually capable of hearing pitch, who'll likely get relegated to a bit part, unfortunately."

He felt badly about that. Being unable to hear was no fault of Zhahar's, but it was going to hurt her chances of landing a worthwhile role all the same.

Maybe making grabby-hands for the cup of chai would help ease that guilt some.

Kenzi carefully handed over the chai, and asked, "You feeling better?" She took another sip of her own drink, and looked thoughtful. "Can she dance?"

"So long as the floor isn't littered in waffles, I'm assuming whatever choreography we can manage won't be too much for, well, nearly anyone," he replied, shrugging and just kind of holding the cup close to his face.

... It smelled good. He wasn't quite certain how it would feel going down, though.

"And... I'm getting there. I'm not going to be able to understudy for the lead, if that's what you're asking."

"Well, then I better not turn into a raccoon this time." Kenzi made the sign against the Evil Eye as she spoke, same as she had when Jonothon started Assuming Things. What? It was legit, look what happened last season! "Good, I'm glad. You don't think of people getting hurt very often here, even with as much as they do."

"Though most lasting injuries seem to happen when people leave," Jono noted, "or else when something big and horrible hits here. Hopefully I'll have enough tryouts to be able to fill the roles this time around, though. I was ambitious. There are fourteen named parts in this bloody thing, and in the past I've had difficulty casting ten."

"Could people double up? If they're not playing Jekyll or Hyde?" Kenzi suggested, looking amused. "Or you could have tone-deaf-girl lip-synch." She grinned suddenly, drumming her heels. "You're teaching, right? Give 'em extra credit for auditioning."

Which was hilarious for Fandom, because the grades didn't even matter, but maybe there'd be one or two crazy enough to think it did.

"... I'm even teaching a class where this would be topical," Jono noted, blinking. "Though I don't know if I'd want a gaggle of students here who were only interested in making their transcripts look better..."

Because Fandom transcripts needed all the help they could get.

"You don't have to cast 'em. Just make them try out, see if they've got any talent." Kenzi shrugged, taking another sip of her mochaccino. "Or help out. Oh! Reminds me. Eponine, have you met her? She was at my party last week."

"You know, I'm... not entirely certain I have," Jono admitted, thoughtfully. "I'm not really the sort to run out looking for meaningful interaction with others."

Because he was awful at it, if you asked him.

"Why? Are you recruiting for backstage again?"

"Yup. Costumes and-or scenery, I think." Kenzi took a sip. "She works days at the post office, if you've been by lately. A little older than me, from France. She likes the theater, and she'll be happy to do it for free tickets if nothing else. I'm trying to poke her into getting out more."

"If she puts in half as many hours as you do, I'd be inclined to pay her for her work here as well," Jono noted, shrugging his shoulders. "I can't do half as much around here as I used to, and we need to essentially build London on that stage before the end of November."

Kenzi gave him a tentative look, worried, and you could almost see her resolving to get him pillows to lay on. "I think I know a few other people I can bug. For what it's worth. And Eponine could use some extra cash, I think she showed up here without too much--" Or nothing. "And she has a cat to feed." She grinned. "Permission to recruit, boss?"

"If you recruit more than Éponine, just run them by me, first, if you don't mind? I'm already paying you and possibly her, I'm not going to have different people do the same work for less, but I want to keep track of just how many directions this budget is being pulled," Jono replied.

He was holding up his chin, trying to look very much like the sort of man that really didn't need to lay down on a nest of pillows or something. Really.
