The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Sep 04, 2013 16:44

With his first class of the semester behind him, Derek was at the bar. Where he didn't have to deal with students. That was the best part about the bar, really. Because it certainly wasn't the DJ that made his day complete.

That goddamn DJ.

He'd have his vengeance on that man someday. Maybe draw a few menacing spirals on his soundboard.d

Spirals. Seriously. That was perfectly normal.

"Hey, buddy," Jack said, pulling herself up on a barstool. "I believe you promised me a drink. Make it something good."

Derek rolled his eyes, grabbing a bottle of what he thought was the good whiskey. Because it was expensive.

"Survive your class?"

"Class and a radio broadcast," Jack bragged. "I'm tough. And you're here too, so, no dropping dead on your end either?"

Derek had managed to avoid that broadcast. For the best for his sanity.

"How'd you get conned into that?"

"Squirrels shoved paper at me and kind of led me into the studio," Jack answered, staring expectantly at that whiskey bottle. "Furry freaks. But they gave me rum when I was done reading, so why not, right?"

Fine, fine.

Derek kindly poured her a glass, shoving it forward. "They make up things."

They so did not.

Jack took an expert gulp from the glass and shoved it back at Derek for a refill. "So you don't go for fast food on dates?"

"No." Derek poured another glass for her. "I don't go on dates."

"Good. Waste of time," Jack said, and quaffed about half of the second glass. "There are easier ways to get laid."

Apparently it was time for the Issues club.

DAMN IT, JACK.

"Right. I'm going to pass on that too." UNTIL HE FOUND PURE LOVE. WITH A STRANGER.

"And there go my plans for the night." Not that Jack sounded all that serious about it. "Anything else you don't do?"

"Tap dance." Aren't you glad to know him, Jack?

Hey, he gave her free booze. He could not tapdance all he wanted.

"Good," Jack said again, trying to keep a straight face. "Tap dancers killed my grandma. Can't stand 'em."

"Tragic," Derek drawled. They had the most awesome of friendships now. "I'll watch out for rogue tap dancers."

"See, I might have just saved your life tonight," Jack informed him. "Keep an eye out for golfers, too."
