Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Mixer, Community Center, Saturday Evening

Jun 15, 2013 13:20

It would appear, to anyone who came to the community center tonight, that whoever had been responsible for decorating for the reunion mixer actually had some taste. The decorations were simple - white linen on the tables with gold and blue flowers as a centerpiece, and a notable lack of streamers - but there was, of course, gold and blue glitter ( Read more... )

The DJ was playing all the classics of the 2010's, as well as any tunes performed by the talented alumni of Fandom High.

Someone had to be on the dance floor, and Mystique, exhibitionist that she was, was there, hips rocking to a sensual tempo no matter what the music.

At least she was wearing a dress -- a slinky white number with a belt made of tiny skulls that left pretty much nothing to the imagination. Or, well, she looked like she was wearing a dress, anyway. Which on her, was about the same thing, really.

Sometimes... sometimes, Genesis needed to remind himself that he was the good guy. That he was a hero, and as such, that he was to stay his hand unless given a reason to do otherwise.

Sometimes, reminding himself of that fact was difficult to accomplish, when the sight of certain faces reminded him of horrors done to him by other people entirely. And, if anyone could put on a face that would remind somebody of something horrible, it was Mystique.

He didn't approach her. He didn't even dare step onto the dance floor. But he did watch her dance, frowning deeply to himself as he stood on the far side of the room.

She wasn't the same, he told himself. Around here, they were seldom ever the same.

Cade could appreciate a well-dressed blue woman dancing on the floor like that, so he stopped to watch a while, a small smile playing across his face.

Mystique licked her lips and smiled back, then shifted into a version of her old blonde disguise, though still wearing that same dress as she danced over in Cade's direction. "Well, who do we have here?"

"Who would you like me to be?" Cade replied, grinning. "Though I can't change into them as fast as you."

"True," Mystique said, shifting back to blue. "But I like your enthusiasm."

"I'm Cade," he said, "unless you'd prefer an alias. I have a bunch of those too."

"Mystique," she said. "What name's your favorite? We can start with that."

"Well, now my favorite name is Mystique," he said with a little wink, "but it would be terribly confusing if we both used it, so I'll stick with Cade."

"Cade it is," Mystique agreed. "So what do you do, Cade?"

Surely he'd grown beyond trying to talk girls into games of spin the bottle, after all.

"Little bit of this and that," Cade said. "I'm a bounty hunter right now--well, off the clock. No one here that I'm after."

Because that would have just be awkward for everyone.

"You?"

"I'm . . . an activist." You know, the kind that liked to kill people. "For mutant rights."

Well, sometimes people just needed to be killed!

Cade looked interested. He'd spent enough time actually paying attention at Fandom to know a bit about mutants. "Huh. How's that going?"

"Slowly," Mystique said, with a long sigh. "We have some . . . interesting ideas to try out, though. So that may change."

"Let me guess," Cade said with a little smile, "'interesting ideas' doesn't exactly mean 'fascinating new pamphlet design.'"
