The Park, Wednesday Afternoon

Apr 03, 2013 06:53

After spending yesterday engaged in some truly pitiful staring at the slip of paper with Sam's phone number, followed by some even more pitiful staring at his phone, followed by some Lifetime level lurking on a college campus, Dean was back at start. Not a single freakin' clue what to do next came to mind. You know, things were so much easier when ( Read more... )

It had been a couple of months since Jo'd last visited the island, so she'd figured she was overdue.

Of course, after the trip over, she needed to stretch her legs, so walking around the park.

Well, if you wanted to get Dean on his feet and more than just a tiny bit alarmed, this was a good job of it. His hand tightened around the hilt of a knife at his hip as he followed her movements.

This island a just cruel.

Yes, yes it was.

Jo caught movement out of the corner of her eye and turned, before breaking into a broad grin. "Dean!" Man, it felt like forever since she'd seen him.

"Jo?" How did Dean's voice go so deep and Christian Bale-y? The world may never know. But whiskey and some grief was probably a good guess.

He did sound like he'd been drinking the stuff Mom set aside for salt and burns. "Last time I looked, yeah."

Well, hopefully Jo wouldn't react as poorly as say Priestly had to being splashed with holy water once he got closer to her.

Because hell hounds and demons.

Oh, of course not, after all she'd gone through the same phase when she'd first come to Fandom. You know, when she was fourteen.

"Thanks, Dean." Which would be when she pulled out her own hip-flask of holy water, since apparently this was a thing they were doing.

Yeah, she could say that again once Lucifer was wandering around.

He at least had the courtesy to offer her the silver knife for her own testing. "Excuse me for being sure," he replied, not taking his eyes off her.

"Seriously?" Jo rolled her eyes as she took the knife and nicked her forearm. "You want to borrow my dad's knife too so the cold iron can prove I'm not a ghost?"

The look he gave her for that was damn near gutted. Because yeah, that would probably be yet another test after what had happened last he saw her. "Ellen?"

She didn't know why he looked gutted, she was the one getting poked and prodded here. "Is fine? We went on a hunt just this weekend."

Because of soul crushing reasons!

He rubbed his mouth, trying to wrap his brain around this new bundle of fucked up. What next? John Winchester strolling down the lane. "Good."

It wasn't entirely out of the question, all things considered.

"It was, actually," Jo said, digging through her pockets for a tissue to press against the cut. "Why are you being so mental?"

"Because I'm not whatever Dean you know," he shot back.

That explained why he looked so rough. "You could have started with that." Jo's tone was annoyed but not entirely unsympathetic. "I know the double thing's a bitch to get used to, but some people aren't going to react well to all this even if they're not a demon or a skin-changer or anything else."

Hey, he'd only done it twice now! Probably again with Sam, but still.

"Trust me, you're gonna want some healthy paranoia," Dean replied.
