Mystery Sign Theater 3000, Monday Evening

Would you look at that? Jeremy was actually managing to take Stacey out on a date! Maybe it was just easier to achieve on Fandom than in Africa, or maybe Jeremy was just a little less likely to randomly wander off the island than he was to fail to travel to distant continents. Whatever the reason, he'd been successful in going to pick Stacey up ( ( Read more... )

Movies, luckily for Stacey had options she could pick without looking too conspicuous. "Just a diet soda," she said. "I ate before this."

Plus popcorn kernels made for bad date stories.

Jeremy had lived most of his life among NY socialites, so even if she'd declared she only ate organic vegetables cut into cubes as a snack, he would've just shrugged and smiled.

He shrugged and smiled and told the guy behind the counter that the lady would take a diet soda, and he'd take M&Ms. "So, are you looking forward to the movie?"

"Yeah," she said brightly. "I haven't seen the first three, though. Do you think that'll be confusing in this one?"

Code for: this was a girl whose favorite movie was about a singing nanny. Stacey didn't see a lot of scary movies.

"I don't think so." He... really had no clue, nope. Jeremy was more of an action movie and dumb comedy kind of guy, along with some Audrey Hepburn classics Juliet made him watch. "It's a popular franchise, those have to be, like, accessible, right?"

"I guess so. And really, if you've seen one scary movie, you've seen them all, I think," she said. "And I hope you don't mind if I grab your hand or anything during it."

Just putting that out there.

Jeremy smirked at her. "Feel absolutely free," he said, picking up their purchases after paying for them, before offering her his arm. "You can even get started already."

Yeah, he'd be playing the brave guy now...

Well, how could she resist that? "I'm glad we finally got to do this," Stacey said, reaching for his hand.

He took her hand and gave it a light squeeze, before starting to tug her along towards the theater proper. "Me too!" Well, duh. "Basically the highlight of my month, at the very least."

That honor actually belonged to last weekend, but saying that wouldn't have been as flattering.

"Do I beat out your birthday party?" Stacey asked, sounding impressed.

"Of course!"

Well, it hadn't been the best birthday party he'd ever had. It was nice, for Fandom, but not like their parties at home.

"I mean, it was a nice party and all but come on. How was it better than a date with Stacey McGill?"

"Aww, that's sweet," she said, taking that totally seriously because Stacey thought kind of highly of herself. "Now I'm going to have to live up to that."

Well, Jeremy had meant it seriously! In that way that he tended to mean most things sincerely as he said them, and then could barely remember them the next day.

"Oh, I'm sure you will," he said, nodding as he showed the guy at the theater door their tickets. "Probably even with, I don't know, great ease. And style."
