The Darling twins were turning eighteen today, and thus crossing the threshold into legal adulthood. It was all top-notch stuff, not usual shoddy catering fare. Also, the cake was huge and intricate.

Natalie wasn't sure why she was here. Maybe it was that she could feel herself slowly going crazy from staying in her room, now that the rain cloud had cleared. She'd tell anyone who asked that she was here just for the cake, though.

But she wasn't expecting anyone to ask, because she (and her lack of party clothes) was keeping to the sidelines. Barely picking at the food on her plate.

Where was French-Canada anyway? That sounded like something he might want to figure out.

He held up the plate.
