Since going back to her room at the hotel probably wasn't the best idea after the detention raid, Isabel and some of the others had made there way to one of the safe spots in the warehouse district.  It seemed the best place to lay low for the time being.

"Feed me and I will love you forever," Eve declared from where she sat, half keeping a discreet eye on Phoebe. Their relationship was... complicated. Just because one part of it was over now that they were out didn't mean the friendship wasn't still there, and friends kept an eye on their friends.

"That kind of pledge when I only have bagels? Wow, what would have happened if I turned up with steak?" she asked, studying Eve as she wondered how to talk to her about Savannah. Which of course led to worrying about exactly where Savannah was at the moment.

"Steak might just've earned you sexual favors," Eve joked. "Or a favor to call in at any time. Whichever you'd have been happier with."

Her sense of humor was starting to return.

"I might have to make a run to the Outback then," Isabel replied. "I might need a favor or two."

"Hey, I said it," Eve said. "And I meant it. Hell, for helping get me out, I'd say that earns you a favor or two anyway."

"Good," she said, growing more serious. "Because I need to collect on one. Now."

"Name it," Eve said, grabbing a bagel and taking a bite.

Hey, when Eve Levine made a promise, she damn well kept it.

"Cut some Savannah some slack when you see her. She's been faking it as a Loyalist since the beginning and feeding me information to pass on to people," Isabel explained. "She did a great job. But all that pretending, everything she had to do to keep up her cover? It's taken a huge toll."

That would be Eve fighting the urge to throw up all of a sudden. "Oh, God... she's going to hate me," Eve said, sounding suddenly panicky. "She's going to hate me for the things I said to her."

She didn't like that idea at all.

Isabel had a pang of guilt for ruining Eve's good mood. But she'd deal with it. It was more important that Eve know the truth. "No, I can safe with one hundred percent certainty that she's afraid you're going to hate her."

Eve fought down the nausea. "I don't hate her," she whispered. "I'm... confused, but I don't hate her."

And then things clicked in her head, a little bit late.

"She told me I wasn't going to die down there. I thought she was just toying with me, but..."

"Confused is understandable. She played her part well."

She nodded as Eve started to understand. "It was the only way she could let you know about the raid. Even if you didn't really understand it."

"And it explains why she never hurt me as badly as some of the others were hurt," Eve said, running a hand through her hair. "I just... God, Isabel, I told her she was no longer my daughter. How can she not hate me for that?"

"Because she knows that you didn't know the truth. This whole situation, it's screwed with people's head." Understatement much? "It's going to take time to get past it."

"I... now that I know the truth, I'm so damn proud of her," Eve admitted softly.

"Good. She's going to need to hear that." If she'd stop running long enough to listen.
