Cara was patrolling the rocky bits tonight. She'd made the argument that there could have been some exceptionally stupid resistance members hiding out here, but really she just wanted to have some privacy.
"Well, that was a triumph," she remarked sarcastically to herself, rubbing the scabbed over cut on her cheekbone. It wouldn't scar, but it was likely to itch like anything while it healed. Certain people had no cause to complain about pulling punches when they threw knives at her head. Even if they knew she could duck them.
"I'm making a note here: huge success
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction."
Cara paused, that had sounded a lot like singing, and Cara did not sing. At all. Ever. Which made the next thing out of her mouth hard to explain.
"Umbridge Island:
We do what we must because we can
For the good of all of us
except for the ones who are dead
"But there's no sense crying over every mistake
We just keep on fighting and the torture I'll fake
Until detentionee abscond, and they break that bitch's wand
For the people who are still alive"
She looked around, to see if the coast was clear of people and squirrels alike, that was not something anyone needed to hear, especially since she'd have to find a way to explain the bodies if the wrong people had.
"I'm not even angry" Ignore the way she was kicking at rocks as it they'd personally insulted her.
"I'm being so sincere right now
Even though it breaks my heart and kills me"
Given how much Cara liked talking about her feelings, that part was completely true.
"We'll tear her to pieces
And throw every piece into a fire
As it burns it'll hurt, like all the things we've been through!
"Now all our forces make a beautiful line
And come this weekend, we're releasing on time
Despite the lessons we've spurned
Think of all the things we learned
For the people that are still alive"
Somewhere along the line, Cara had started gesturing expansively with the lyrics.
"I wish I could leave them
Then I could fight there by your side"
Again Cara tried unsuccessfully to clamp down on this singing. Not that she meant anyone specific there. It was a general you, could have meant anyone and everyone in the resistance.
"Maybe I'll find someone else to help you
Maybe that Brink kid...
That was a joke, ha ha, fat chance
Anyway last night great, although you cut up my face"
Again the you in the that verse was COMPLETELY GENERAL AND NON SPECIFIC, DAMMIT.
"Look at me still talking, when there's fighting to do
And the whole island will be glad when we're through
I've subterfuge to run, until the resistance is done
Free the people who are still alive"
Why was she standing proudly on a rock? Why? When had that happened?
"And believe me I am still alive
I'm still fighting and I'm still alive
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive
While she's dying I'll be still alive
And when she's dead I'll be still alive
STILL ALIVE
Still alive"
As the last notes died away. Cara waited until it became clear we wasn't going to start singing again before scrambling down from the rock she was perched on as quickly as humanly possible.
[That Cara was singing FB, the lyrics not so much.]
