The community center had been decorated (glitterified), the models were probably backstage by now either looking fabulous or questioning their life choices, and once everyone was ready there were two emcees taking the stage.
Rilla was still not wild about public speaking when it wasn’t over the radio (there, no one could stare at her), and so she said a quick prayer that she wouldn’t lisp too terribly. The poor starving Belgians were counting on her efforts here!
“Hello,” she said with a tight, nervous smile, “and welcome to the first annual--” things sounded better when they could become annual events, right? “--Kappa Delta Gremlin Fashion Show!”
After waiting for any applause- and there had better be applause, it was only polite-
Annie continued, "Tonight you're going to see members of the sorority, fraternity and Pride show off some fashions, and help raise money for the Red Cross to help people all the way back in 1915!" Which probably wasn't going to create some weird time paradox, right? They were being helpful. And retro. Retro-ly helpful.
Rilla waited for that applause to die down before concluding, “And tho--” bad word. BAD WORDS THAT RILLA DIDN’T EVEN THINK FOR THE POORLY TIMED LISPING RIGHT NOW, GOD, “--without further ado,” or any other words with s, if she could help it, “our first model!”
