Movie Sign Theater 3000, evening

Feb 15, 2006 00:51

Cameron led Vala up to the theater and turned to face her as they neared the closed doors. He turned to face her and cupped her cheek as he leaned in for a short kiss.

"Give me ten minutes to quickly set some last things up?" He'd done most things already, but it needed to be perfect. It was Vala's first Valentine after all.

She leaned against him, sighing happily.

A frown crossed her face -- "I'm sorry I didn't get you a present" -- and then turned back into a smile. "But don't worry, I'll keep an eye out and in a few days you'll have something really exotic."

Cameron raised an eyebrow. "Really exotic? Like you?" He asked and he might be trying to slide her shirt up her side just a bit.

Her grin brightened. "Yeah, just like me. Brought from the stars especially for you."

"By intergalatic courier?" Cameron chuckled and slipped his hand in the opening to caress the skin underneath.

"Nah, I wouldn't trust something like this to a courier," she smiled, tracing his ear with one finger. "You're going to get something personally selected by one of the best experts in the galaxy, me."

His hand stilled on her back and he stared up at her, trying not to get distracted by what she was doing. "You?"

"Yeah," she slid her hand around and started playing with the hairs on the back of his neck. "See, I've got this job -- only going to take a couple of days really -- but for you I can always make time for a little extra shopping."

Cameron frowned and snagged her hand to keep her from distracting him. He gently pushed against her sides, indicating that she should sit up.

"You've got this job? Anything like the last one you did?"

She sat up, frowning slightly. "Yeah, kind of. Different source, but should make a tidy little profit. And no weapons to the bad guys or anything like that. I promise."

He sat up too and pinched the bridge of his nose. "And how dangerous exactly is this little escapade?"

"No more so than last time," she gave him a look. "I've done this dozens of times before, you know. Haven't gotten myself killed yet."

"I know," he scowled into the dark instead of at her. "You've done this dozens of times before and you'll do it dozens of times again. I get that."

"Then what's with the attitude," she frowned. "Would it be better if I told you I was going off on my very first vampire hunt with no training? Or no, maybe I shouldn't actually tell you that."

He flinched and bit his lip for a moment, turning his head slightly as he let the words sink in. "At least I did it to try to help people and not to fill my own damn pockets."

Vala has pulled back so she's not even sitting near him any more. "Oh, and so when you sign up with the Air Force you're what? Going to be turning down the paycheck? Because when you're grown up you need to be able to put food on your own table, you know. And this is what I do. And I'm damned good at it, thank you very much!"

He stared at her, not able to believe she had just said that. "I'll be earning it by protecting people, not by trying to scam them or rip them off." He shook his head. "I thought you understood that."
