It wasn't like her beach back home, and she didn't have her friends with her, but Cleo couldn't resist getting in the water at least for a little while. It wasn't like anyone was around to see, right

Danny liked the beach, okay? He'd had some of the best times of his life (all seventeen years of it) on a beach, and really, what wasn't to like? There was sun, you could smoke, and girls ran around wet without wearing a lot of clothes.

Speaking of, when he spotted the pretty brunette out in the water, he paused for a minute before calling out, "You should be careful. There's like, undertow."

He didn't know what he was talking about. But hey, he'd saved one Australian girl's life on a beach before.* It wasn't bad, as far as pickup lines went.

*It's in the lyrics and everything. Even if Sandy doesn't seem to agree.

"Oh, I know!" Cleo called back. "I've got it covered."

The tail was great for things like that.

He raised a brow, watching her, and added, "You sure? I'm a really good swimmer. I can help!"

Altruistic.

"Uh, no!" Cleo said quickly. "I'm a really strong swimmer. It's not a problem at all."

Unless she got caught in a net like that one time but what were the odds of that happening twice?

"Yeah? What's your name?" he called, because this wasn't normal. It was like she didn't even want him to come in the water!

"Cleo?" She was still not as okay talking to boys as she would be later even if she wasn't technically sort of PGishly naked.

"That's a pretty name," he offered, because he wasn't an ass all the time. "Are you from Australia?"

He was guessing. With the accent and all.
