"Lunch comes a-calling," Ender called. He was in a whimsical mood today - don't take it out on him, please.

He had a bag of burgers on him - three for Ben and one for himself - and some coffee.

"My favorite time of the day," Ben said, grinning. "And it's nice to see you too."

"Who said anything about seeing you?" Ender said, putting the bag on the desk. "I'm all about the lunch."

"And the ambiance of eating it in a shop?" Ben asked.

"The hubub of life and the thrift of commerce," Ender said. "It works on my appetite."

"You're so full of poodoo," Ben said, grinning at him.

"No," Ender said, extracting one of Ben's burgers, "That would be after consumption."

Ben cracked up. "Thank you for that."

Sometimes they were still teenagers.

"You're welcome," Ender said, extracting burgers #2 and #3. "There you go."

"Thank you," Ben said, leaning in to give him a quick kiss. "Even if you're a brat."

Ender snorted. "Oh, I'm the brat?" he said. "Who left droid parts all over the floor near the bed this morning?"

"The droid?" Ben tried.

"Oh, sure," Ender said dryly.

"I'll clean it up when I get home," Ben promised, taking a bite from the burger.

Ender took his own burger out of the bag and took a bite, too. "Maybe we should just get you an extra piece of furniture to store your stuff in," he said. "It's not like we need that corner of the room."

Ben nodded. "Shove the other bed over, maybe? Make more room?"

Why was he feeling so nervous suggesting that?
