As the midnight hour approached, some squirrels turned up with a stack of numbers.

They lined up near the bonfire and started to flip them in turn.

With the countdown starting, Bruce stood slightly off to the side, counting down along with everyone else.

Cara wasn't counting down, but she had also been standing off to the side. She wasn't exactly trying to creep up on Bruce, but she was making an effort to move silently.

It was her duty as a friend to keep him on his toes. Yep. Really. That.

"Kissing anyone at midnight, Cara?" Bruce asked. It was tough to sneak up on him. And once he realized that someone was, it was a matter of figuring out who could, would, and was at the party. Elementary from there.

Never actually tell her that Bruce, she'd just take it as a challenge.

As it was, her stride went from a stalk to a saunter. "I didn't have any plans." Potential impulsive ambushes were completely different from plans, after all.

Cara'd just have to move quickly then. Which would be why she was stepping closer and reaching for the lapels of his coat. "I'd hate for you to be alone."

Cara probably would have returned the sentiment, but she had much better things to do with her mouth right now. Oddly enough, they involved Bruce's mouth as well and her hands moving up to cup his jaw.
