The Perk [Tuesday Morning]

Dec 06, 2011 10:39

Sleep was a rare thing this week. A problem which Angela was treating with caffeine. Lots and lots of Perk-supplied caffeine. She probably wasn’t alone in that. With the clouds building outside the forcefield, blocking out everything the temptation was for something a little stronger than that. It was looking unlikely ( Read more... )

"They have weird priorities," Savannah supplied when she saw with undisguised relief that Angela was safe and on the island.

Angela spun, the barista losing all attention. "Oh my god they do, and you're here." The relief was not one sided by any means, and she abandoned her coffee mission for a hug. Far more important at this point.

"I hate that it's because of this, but sweetie am I glad to see you."

Savannah hugged Angela tightly. There was no denying how glad she was to be holding onto her friend.

"Me, too, Ange. Oh, god, me too. I was hoping that I wasn't going to get a call or have to see your name on the wrong side of the board."

"No calls, no boards," Angela assured her. "I didn't even know there was a board. There's a board?" Lots of coffee plus nerves. She was talking quite fast.

Considering that Savannah hadn't let go of her completely yet, it could be said that there was a problem of a lot of nerves on both sides.

"There is. There's a board keeping track of the people or worlds that have disappeared and then another board keeping track of returning Fandom Alumni. Do you have a hotel room, yet? If not, you're staying with me at Sean and Annja's place."

Look, Savannah had lost three of her closest friends from Fandom that she knew of and she wasn't about to take the chance on Angela becoming the fourth.

"I have one, but I am not that attached to it." Angela was hardly shy of admitting that she'd rather be somewhere around friends. "It's the TV for company, and it's really not reassuring right now."

Neither was the idea there was a board.

"Oh, good. I know they'll be glad to have you there with me."

Anyone that would make Savannah even try to smile right now would be greeted with joy by Sean, Annja and Eve.

"Were there problems in your state or world before you got here?"

"I was in Paris, which seemed okay? Until they refused to believe that yes, I'd had a roommate, and no I hadn't been imagining that." Problems. Yes, you could say her world had them. "It just got worse."

Angela hesitated, before finally getting out a "Who are we missing?" From the extent of things, she would hazard 'a lot', and almost didn't want to know.

Savannah had been dreading that question, but she swallowed and even did her best to keep her voice even.

"Johnny is gone," she finally managed to say. "He and is whole family and the New York that we were living in. I would have been taken, too, but Wyatt rescued me at the last moment."

"Oh. Sweetie." The sympathy might not help her with the holding it together, but Angela honestly couldn't hold that sort of thing back. At least her own worries hadn't been confirmed yet. There was some positive in that.

"We'll get him back. You know we will." She'd be positive if it killed her. "Everything we've all been through, we always pull it back. I haven't been in yet, but I bet there's a whole school of people working on it."

She nodded, reaching to hug Angela again. "Things weren't the best when this happened, but at least we were working on them." She swallowed. "Summer and Chris are gone-- as is that world. Gwynn lost all of her world and Eve had to knock her out so that she and Tim could save her life and get her back here."

Angela closed her eyes, breathing deep, because despite her positive words knowing people were just... gone, and so many of them. Friends, people she'd cared about, even the ones she hadn't known were difficult to hear about.

"I haven't heard from Hannibal," she almost didn't want to know what she was about to ask. "Is he--" On the list. Finishing that sentence just wasn't happening.

"I haven't seen him on the lists," she was able to answer honestly. "I got through the names every couple of days, but I haven't seen his."

That was... positive. Right?

Angela was going to try and take it that way, and nodded slowly. "Some worlds are just completely free of all this, aren't they? Maybe his is one of those." Maybe he had no idea anything was going on?

It didn't quash Angela's bad feeling about all this, but saying it helped somehow.

It was possible.

Savannah nodded. "There are entire worlds that haven't had anything like this happen to them, so I think it's a good thing to assume that he's one of the worlds that have no idea that anything is going to hell."

Savannah could be damn optimistic for a friend like this.
